Bone Fide or Bona Fide?
by Renea0685
Which one is correct? I always thought it was bonA fide, but in paragraph thirteen the author says bone fide. Am I mistaken, or is this a case of incorrect spell check correction?

That was, ironically, a typo that Google would have caught, even though "bone" is a real word too. Fixed now -- thanks.

I thought it was pretty ironic, too. I'm glad I wasn't crazy on spelling it, thought!

Yes, it probablyi is a case of incorrect spellcheck correction, since of course bona fide ("in good faith") is a Latin phrase. This raises the entire question of how a spellchecker handles quotations or even just loanwords from foreign languages. Usually badly, and this is another way in which a spellchecker can screw you up if you're not on your toes.
