FEMALES IN THE DRAFT
by robbins.brandon
My understanding is that b/c of recent equality stances within gov't policy, a military draft would draw from the female sector as well as the male. Otherwise, numerous lawsuits could be filed for discrimination based on gender.

Females should not be drafted. They should only be volunteers.

why?

Re: FEMALES IN THE DRAFT

So Mr. Liberal, in this age where men and women have the same rights and privileges, we should still decide who is forced to go out and fight and possibly die for their country based on their sex organs?

Check his nickname and the overwhelming lameness of his post. He's trying to get everybody "riled up".

BTW, The Russians and the Israelis have experience with the "squat to pee" crowd as very accomplished killers.

I have a vision of a 2 "person" sniper team consisting of Nicole Richie as The trigger and Paris Hilton as The Spotter. There's some Reality TV for ya !

I totally agree with me12321. I am against the draft and as a father of two young sons why do only men have to sign up for selective service as well. In this day, that women want to be and they should have the rights to be a CFO, CEO of companies, senators, in congress and yes of course to be possibly the president of the United States, that they should not have the same possiblity of being called up if the draft is back. I also say even on the front line the same as any other person. I find it very interesting that the women groups want everything else but I sure have not seen any of these same people demanding to have women on the selective service requirements. Where have these demands been? I have not seen them. Do not give me all of a sudden I am a women and I am different. What also about that if this does happen that a man's life would be on hold for 2-3 years and the women get to go off to college and start their professional careers. Is not this a time for revolt and/or law suits as well.

Sorry mrliberal, but as an honorably discharged, female, retired veteran of the United States Navy I have to disagree. I and many other women have served and continue to serve in all branches of the military. We do the job and we do it with Pride, Honor, Courage and Commitment. If we couldn't so it we wouldn't be there. Believe all you want the story that we don't serve in combat, but piloting a fighter jet, manning a gun turret, and carrying a weapon in the supply corps certainly means Fight or Die!

What I have to say to the people calling for a draft is that my son is certainly not going without your daughters!!

I believe that young women in this country should have to sign up for the selective service when they turn eighteen. That should be the first step before a discussion of the draft ever hits the floor. Service to country should not be selective it should be inclusive.

Ordinarily, I would agree that women should have to sign up for the selective service, or be subject to being drafted. (equal rights, equal responsibilities.) However, and I don't mean to start a bad argument, but as someone who has served in the military, and seen women in the military, I hesitate to even allow women in the military, much less require them to do so. Don't get me wrong, I have seen some tough females in uniform, and they have my highest respect, but the vast majority of females I have seen in uniform leave much to be desired.

One more point before I finish this up. I remember when I was in boot camp, and the Senior Drill Instructor sat us all down, and asked us about ladies in the military. We told him what we thought, and afterwards, he brought up one point that none of the recruits did. He said that men naturally want to protect women, and if a man were to try to protect a women out in combat, instead of counting on her to follow her orders, he might do something that endangers the whole unit.

Then that guy would be a fool for forgetting his training and not following commands.

Against my father's wishes, who thought that females in the military were either "queer or whores", I joined up in 1962, right out of High School, took my RN training in the Army and was then immediately sent to VN in 1966. My MASH had 33 women of various rank in various positions. We often rode out on Medevacs to bring in the wounded and our compound was shelled fairly regularly. In all the hazardous conditions we faced, along with or male counterparts, no one ever lost their instinct to protect their fellow soldier regardless of gender.

I am sorry your experience with women in the military left you soured on the thought, but the ones I served with--both in and out of combat, the ones I have known, both in the medical corps and not--have been, with few exceptions, exemplary people and dedicated soldiers.

Audiomancer, apparently your standards are lower for men than for women. As an honorably discharged woman who served 24 years in the Air Force I worked with just as many shitty men as women, but I don't judge all men by them. Let me assure you of one thing. I worked my full career in munitions maintenance and that's a largely male career field. Not one man tried to protect me. I moved the same loads they did and worked the same hours. I knew that men like you would dog me forever if I took the same advantages they did. We can debate this forever but the bottom line is you have your mind made up. Trying judging individuals as individuals for once.

GrannyB2, Audiomancer made it clear he disliked women in the military before he even worked with any women. He entered basic with a prejudice. I won't cut any slack to someone like that.
