the author gives rove way too much credit.

what is it about Rove that drives lefties insane?

architect of 2 election victories? oh yes.

a republican majority? maybe, but the democrats were slipping for a while before that.

That nasty partisan divide? It was growing long before Rove arrived. He may have sharpened it, but he sure as hell wasn't the only one whiling away with a sharpening stone.

Bushes unpopularity? doubtful. Bush's unpopularity is directly related to his handling of Katrina, and to the Iraq war, and i doubt very much Rove can be blamed for that.

In the end, Rove was just a political advisor who, at least for a time, had the pulse of narrow majority.

in the end, only bush determines his own legacy.

Everyone gives Rove to much credit, he has even admitted himself that he his reputation has evolved into a myth.

Listen, it was the Republicans that lifted Rove up on the pesdistal, annointed him "The Architech" , "Boy Genius", "Bush's Brain" and the like.

So when shenanigans and corruption occured in the Whitehouse, who was the embodiment of those acts?

The left, and many on the right as well, do not care for his type of politics, do not want someone so partisan in the Whitehouse. He was not elected to any office, and held too much influence over a President.

Republicans were quite willing to shower the man with praise when he "archeteched" GW into the Presidency, yet were too slow to pull the plug when the administration and its partisan policies went to shi'ite.

He took a minority of popular vote in the first election and a slim 1% margin in the second and decided "America has spoken" and somehow construed that to be some sort of mandate to have Bush govern in a highly partisan manner. Even though shortly after each election, all the polls showed a overwhelming majority of the constituancy was against their policies.

Its the comtempt for the American citizenry, their values and opinions that sealed his fate. Not to mention his role in (yet to be determined if illegal, or not) nefarious activities.

A spy was outed during time of war. That is a fact. Rove may have been involved. Most Americans do not want even the impression of that type of impropriety in our Whitehouse.

So (nonpartisan) Americans weighed the importance of Karl Roves role within our government, against his policies and activities and determined it to be a net loss. For some reason, the president didn't think he could function without him, so like so many other corrupt Republicans during this admonistration, the fringe base rallied around him and the president, out of loyalty. While that is commendable, we see how that has affected Bushs ability to accomplish anything.

I have posted a single question on slate many times, starting right after Matt Cooper fingered Rove as his source in the CIA leak:

What positive has Karl Rove done for The USA?

Hint: getting the worst President in our lifetime elected twice is not a positive.

I've never gotten a good answer.

So its Americans, not just the left (Michelle Malkin had no love for him on O'Reilly's show last night) that are skeptical regarding this mans effect on our government and democracy.

So once again:

What positive has Karl Rove done for The USA?

Giving Rove too much credit is nonsense. That is not the problem.

It was win at all cost that takes Rove to the gutter. It was more important for him to have a given agenda than to do what is right for American.

That will be his, as well as Bush's legacy.

They both will be considered by history as punks.

....what is it about Rove that drives lefties insane?....

The fact that he looks like a f*cking PIG. No other reason is necessary. Now hunt the pig down.

But if I were to personally grade the personal attacks on Rove's looks, I liked the earlier "shaved rear-end of a hamster" comparison better.

Hmmm, not according to Bush as he has played it to his “masses”; Bush’s platform was built on him supposedly believing in and being informed by a Christian God. It does not matter who he denoted as his “architect”, their actions (even the ones swept under the carpet) will be judged by a far mightier power. A force even Bush is not the “decider” of.

HunterWagner74,

Now there is a really eloquent posting. It amazes me how some people just chisel away at getting their little sayings and quotes online and all the while not contributing a damned thing to the subject at hand.

'He looks like a pig...' Wow, what intelligence you display in your scribblings.

Yuck.....

I saw Rove as a campaign guru, not a policy setter.

Nothing will change. Bush is not running for any office now so why should he need Rove?

The person we should be keeping our eye on is Cheney. If he goes, then definitely - something is up.

Unfortunatly, no matter how true that may be, the rest of us will be paying for his actions for generations to come.
