The need to dehumanize Hitler

Thanks for pointing out our obsessive need to categorize Hitler as something other than human.

I think it's dangerous for us to render Hitler as little more than an anomaly. There are probably a million Hitlers walking around (some of them post on the Fray occasionally), held in check by our political and social circumstances.

Hitler was just one wacko white supremecist who had the opportunity and the speaking skills to rouse the perverse and violent tendencies of an entire society into action.

Very true. It was the environment that allowed Hitler to thrive that is of prime importance. Some lessons were learned and applied after WWII but there are still some that haven't been addressed.

The right wing still panders to the fearful. The current economic troubles could again be their opportunity. RepubliCON policies over the past 40 years have left the door open and many don't want the necessary reforms to occur to prevent another era of fascist dictatorships.
