deconstructing the height statistics . . .
by baltimore aureole

hmm . .. the average height of americans is falling gradually.

and there are now 10 million mexican "undocumented workers" in america. and every one of them i meet is shorter than me.

i wonder . .. . could the two items be related?

naw - let's blame the bush administration and its failure to nationalize the health care system.

that will make us taller.

Although it is fairly easy to pin the blame on illegal immigrants, the study by Komlos actually screened out people of Asian and Hispanic descent, due to influencing factors. A more likely reason is the high calorie low nutrient diets that are given to children during what would ordinarily be the growth sprints, which in effect, lower their potential height. This effect can be seen in minority populations, such as Asian-americans, who generally eat a more healthful diet thus causing their second-generation children to grow much taller than their parents. In short, home cooking is always better for you and your kids.

Naw, let's blame the Mexicans.

Another irrefutable gem of logic brought to you by the aureole.
