Do we have any laws in this country?
by mthabetz

How is it possible that the President can do all the things we have learned he can do without any Congressional restraint? Congress passes a law, and the President adds a note at the bottom when he signs it that serves to make the law do the opposite of what Congress intended. Congress authorizes billions of dollars to buy up mortgage securities and specifically acts to counter the notion that Hank Paulson can do whatever he wants to do with the money, so naturally, Hank Paulson does what he wants and uses the money for a completely different purpose. Alberto Gonzales goes before Congress and explains that the President is not subject to law. Warrantless wiretapping, secret prisons, rendition. We learned recently that the President can independently issue directives that gut environmental policy, and for some reason, the new President can't reverse the directives. Now, we are being told the President can pardon people in his administration who haven't even been charged with a crime, let alone convicted, if he knows they have committed a crime. How is this not an authoritarian state?

If President Bush has prior knowledge that crimes were committed and fails to disclose this information he should be indicted as a "co-conspiritor". Fat chance that will ever happen!
