Adopt a Greyhound Obama
by Gianicole

Obama should adopt a pet that needs a home. There are thousands of dogs that need good homes, just waiting for adoption. Greyhounds make great pets, they like to live indoors most of the time, they do not shed like other dogs, they are very friendly and even tempered and they love to play -- good with kids. For people who have pet hair allegeries, these are the dogs for them as usually people with pet allergies do not have problems with greyhounds. I have adopted two greyhounds and they are the best dogs I have ever owned. They are kind of big, but then there is plenty of room at the White House, lots of room to run in a fenced area, which is something that most of us who adopt greyhound would love to have, but we have to serach for places for for our dogs to run. Anyway, it is the right thing to do, adopt a pet that needs a home. Save the life of one of these beautiful dogs and do what it right.

His daughter needs a hypoallergenic dog, greyhounds aren't it. I have allergies and greyhounds trigger them.

It's the dogs with hair, like poodles and other water dogs, and not fur that cause fewer allergic reactions. It's not the fur or hair we're actually allergic to, but the dander, or dried saliva on the fur of most dogs.

Other than that, though, I agree that if you can rescue a greyhound, that is a great thing.

I am just going by my expereince, as my daughter, father and brother have allegeries to some pets -- some dogs and expecially cats. My family have not had any problems with the greyhounds as they do not generally have dander.

Greyhounds are beautiful dogs. Although I would consent that bad conditions are worse than dead. Even discarded Greyhounds need lots of exersize and more that a brief commitment to life while in the White House.

Not true. Greyhounds are sprinters and one good run (or a decent walk) each day is all that they require. They will probably sleep most of the rest of the time.

I've been around several adopted greys, and always have a reaction. People's sensitivities differ.

Here's a test that works for me: Put a little bit of the dog's saliva on the inside of a wrist, if it becomes red, itchy, breaks out in hives, then yep there's a good chance you'll have problems with that dog.

The only dogs I haven't had reactions to are poodles, cockapoos, and water dogs.

Chihuahuas and Maltese

The Chihuahua and Maltese are known as hypoallergenic hounds. What's more, the president would thus be paying a complement to the Mexican or Italian people, as the ancestral homes.

Greyhounds are listed as hypoallergenic. They have very thin coats and don't shed much.
