Palin, Stupidity, Apologies
by Camille Claudel
+1/-2 Reply

So - after the election a story emerges that Sarah Palin didn't know Africa is a continent. Turns out the story was a hoax.

But exactly what was the hoax, and who was it played on? It happened after the election, so figure it out. The hoax wasn't on Palin. It was on you*. The hoax only worked on you. You were in a tunnel-visioned state of mind that you'd believe just about anything if it suggested Palin was really stupid. You fell for it hook, line, and sinker. You weren't interested in actually seeing the evidence. You were only interested in ridiculing her. You gloated. You patted yourself on the back.

And now you see you've been made to look stupid. That's how hoaxes work. They make you the subject of a big practical joke and now it's time to take your lumps. You've been exposed. You were too quick, wanting to strike and willing to even buy the Brooklyn Bridge deed put before you.

The way I see it you have two choices: hide or 'fess up.**

* Yes you.

** I guess there's no way of checking but I may have been the first in the fray to doubt the story.....(gloating is an art, not a right.....)

Have never believed any of the crap they've said about her. AND she has been exonerated for the misuse of her office of governor in Alaska.

Posters on the fray are no different than many members of the media. They hear what they want and repeat what advances their opinion reguardless of validity. Take for example many of the posts on here about Obama not being a natural born citizen, or wanting to start some civilian army. These are as ridiculous as the claims about Palin (or probably more). It takes some effort to sort through the mess to find thoughtful discussion about important issues here and in the media. Hell, it takes some effort to find discussion about REAL issues.
Nope, she's still a dumbass.

"The hoax was limited to the identity of the source in the story about Palin _ not the Fox News story itself. While Palin has denied that she mistook Africa for a country, the veracity of that report was not put in question by the revelation that Eisenstadt is a phony."

But really, who cares?

Palin said today that she really wants to help the Obama administration "progress America." Whatever that means.

If she keeps on talking all that silliness of the election will be buried in her current attempts to sound smart, when she's not.

is to continue to attack.....
Yeah, I'm curious about that.

I always figured that people who never admit when they're wrong have less credibility than people who do, at least occasionally, admit they're wrong. Given the distracted world we live in, however, and the popularity of certain inflammatory talk show hosts (caught a little "Dr. Laura" while driving in a particularly radio-desolate area the other day), I'm wondering if I ought to rethink that.

Dum, dum, dum de de dum dum

Dum dum de dum de dum

What is that music?

False claim of sourcedom.

Not a hoax. A real leak that really said that Palin really didn't know that Africa was a continent.

May or may not be true but, sadly, not unbelievable.

What's WITH you guys, anyway? (Thinkin' you, "Demcon", primarily, though gotta throw DarthAngel in there with you [yes, I know, ultimate insult if you still cling to any pretense of inegrity].)

Specifically, inability/unwillingness to distinguish what was revealed as a hoax from what was not.

'bout as pathetic as it gets.

Well, after 3 months she did learn a speech

The Larry King interview
by Dawn Coyote

was icky. He asked her questions about her daughter; "What was it like as a mother to find out about Bristol's pregnancy." He asked her if she was sad when she learned the election results. She replied that she believed John McCain was the best man for the job, so of course she was disappointed, blah blah blah.

"But were you sad?" King said. "I was disappointed, of course," she said.

And there's me, yelling at the TV again: "Would you ask a man if he was sad, you dried up old fart? Would you ask a male politician about his pregnant daughter?"

In other news, I hear Larry Summers is off the list, and Hillary Clinton is on the short list for Sect'y of State.

Bill would be very good in that job, though.

I am still holding out for her to replace the completely worthless Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader.

Second that.

Economy of language rocks. I will say that she would be good as a Secretary of State if she wanted the job, but I don't get the impression that she does.

I have to say that I thought the "continent" story was a bit pointless, thus I didn't see any need to comment on it - more than anything else, it seemed like another piece in McCain's campaign staff's attempt to maintain their future viability by dispersing blame and humiliation elsewhere. That said, I think Palin provided more than enough examples of stupidity during the campaign to give the story the initial ring of truth.
