An Appreciation for Texas
by JackDallas

I have travelled, worked and lived all around this country. As a result I have a pretty well developed sense of the similarities and the differences between people in the various regions. Most of the people I have met are basically pretty much the same. The work for a living, want to provide for their families and be safe to pursue the great American dream….whatever that might men to them. I said most, not all.

Marylanders are humorless people, educated idiots who are very literal. You can tell a joke or use a euphemism in front of a Marylander and be met with a blank, Boo Radley, stare.

Westerners, including Alaskans, seem to be more independent and strong willed, perhaps because of their history of hardship and struggle to settle the land. Colorado is still the home of my heart. The people there are enough like Texans to make them palatable, if not endearing, to me.

Southerners are generally not as educated as those in some other parts of the country, but they are straight forward and usually honest. They are morally black and white, not much gray area in their thinking (a man robs a convenience store and kills the clerk….execute him, no matter what his color and no matter that he didn’t get enough hugs from his daddy when he was growing up).

The west coast….phoniest bunch of bastards with whom I have ever come in contact. This country would be far better off if the west coast ended at the California, Oregon and Washington eastern borders.

The people who live in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and all points north all the way to the Canadian border, are the most cowardly, uncompassionate, selfishly rude, and uneducated individuals who have ever drawn in oxygen. They are protectors of those sick twisted animals who rape children and murder innocent people. They are not worth the bones and sinew that make up of their sorry existence.

Texas is, to be brutally honest, just plain too good for the United States. We are simply better at most things than are those who live in most of the other states, and we are, generally a lot smarter. My heartfelt, and most passionate dream, is to see Texas secede from the Union and become an independent country again. I would happily leave the United States to choke on its own filth, misguided immorality, and its craven cowardice.

As Joe Biden would say: I have two words for you people….fuck you all.

JD: This country would be far better off if the west coast ended at the California, Oregon and Washington eastern borders.

This country would be a hell of a lot poorer and less important if it cut California, Oregon, and Washington off. California alone ranks sixth or seventh in world GDP. Similarly, the Eastern seaboard you so dislike also contributes more than its fair share of GDP-- and taxes. A nation of Red States you propose would quickly de-evolve to a Mexican living standard.

Rather than eliminate the prosperous, educated, and more tolerant Blue states, I'd recommend abolishing future presidents who are Texans. LBJ and Bush between them did a LOT of damage which will take decades to undo. Texans are clearly not fit to run the country.

I posted with no illusions that all would agree with my assessment. The last line was for you.

While it's not my "most passionate dream" it would certainly brighten my day!! Good luck on that Jack - let me know where to send a check in support of your plan!

Every time I leave Texas I appreciate how much better it is at home.

Most people say that about any place they visit. I'm sure your home would afford me a much greater appreciation of mine.

i appreciate texas.
by Snolly G

i've only ever met one true texan (born and raised). others have only been in passing or are texan by adoption. they were unremarkable. but that one texan i met was respectable. young texans, on first impressions, have always given me a different feel--they're little more than californians with a twang. overall, i suspect that the good parts of texas are really good--the bad parts, no worse than anywhere else.

i appreciate maine. it's beautiful country. the folks there were always independent-minded, self-sufficient, with a wry, scary humor.

i appreciate vermont. it's also beautiful country. vermonters are generally not nearly as dark-humored as mainers. they've always been wholesome folk, which makes them somewhat boring. good people, still.

i can sorta appreciate new hampshire. there's a strong backwoods-deliverance feel to some parts of the land. but they're just ordinary people, trying to get by.

i appreciate massachusetts. i can't say i love it all. having grown up here, i've seen the good and the bad. the good parts are solid. i trust the good with my life. but the good aren't that easy to find, aren't that easy to identify. people around here can sometimes get stuck in their pretensions and in their sense of entitlement. people here don't make it easy to get to know them. but once you're in, you're in for good.

i sorta appreciate rhode islanders. they're not bad people--well-intentioned, but not too bright--otherwise unremarkable.

i don't have much appreciation for connecticut yankees. i wouldn't trust a single one any further than i could throw them. the only saving grace in the state is the town of mianus, which provides me with endless childish, immature delight when i'm passing through the state.

i don't have much appreciation for new yorkers. nyc is a shithole. new yorkers are assholes. upstaters feel way too entitled. the only new yorkers i'm comfortable sharing a beer with are those in and around buffalo.

i like pennsylvanians. all of them. philly libs. pittsburg blue collar types. i even like the ones living in pennsyltucky, but maybe i'm just saying that to stay in their good graces because some of them scare me.

i love ohioans. it doesn't matter what political stripe they come in. they are the friendliest people you will ever meet. they're a bit crazy, but all in harmless ways.

i'm less hot for indiana. i suspect they'd be like ohioans, if only they didn't have such an inferiority complex. but the only indianans i've ever met where awkward and shy. i suspect they're like massholes. unfriendly until they get to know you. then you're in. (here's hopin'?)

i don't know if i know anyone actually from michigan. maybe i know a lot of them. whoever they are, they seem to blend right in with massachusettsians(?).

i have little appreciation for new jersey. they're either new yorkers with an inferiority complex or otherwise completely bland.

i appreciate delaware. it's the plainest, most mundane state i've ever visited. but i know one guy from delaware. he's solid. if he knows where you stand, he'll stand right there next to you.

i appreciate west virginia. for all the backwater stereotypes, they're sincere people. they'll give you a chance. if you pass, you're in. if you don't, well... i wouldn't know. i'm in.

i don't much appreciate maryland. i only know it through my brother's experience living there for a year. it's unremarkable. jd's impression that marylanders are well-educated doesn't square with my or my brother's impression. they seem pretty average to me.

i appreciate north carolinians. the ones i've met are spirited, opinionated people. but they're good people.

i'd have better appreciation for new mexico if i only cared about the scenery. the one guy i know from there was a bit too unperturbed, too cool. i wouldn't trust him.

i have little appreciation for arizonans. they're batshit insane. every last one of them. i bet it's terminal sunstroke/heatstroke.

i appreciate utah. i can't stand much for wacky mormon beliefs, but the people there give off a certain vibe. i'm not sure i could trust them to be loyal, but i would definitely trust them to be polite.

i don't appreciate california. californians can't be trusted. they're too self-absorbed, too selfish. combined with intelligence, it's a deadly mix. but it's a beautiful state. i.e., the only thing wrong with california is the californians.

i appreciate washingtonians. not sure what it is about them that i like. they're like mainers, if a little whinier.

can't really comment on the rest of the country. not sure i've ever met anyone from those other parts.

Jack,

You and I both know you are not a represenative (iespell not detected, pfui) sample of Texas, now you might be in Ft. Worth. I would not support becoming independent or leaving the US, I love the melting pot we have become.

Was Bush even originally from Texas?

Things like this in Texas remind me that there is an entire state full of people with small-penis issues that...um, dwarf mine.
