Conservatism=Republican Party?
by Illinichief
Dont make the mistake of assuming that "conservatism" and the Republican party are synonymous. The Republican party today is far different than it was 50 or 100 years ago, and "Conservatism", as used in American politics today describes something different than it did 50 or 100 years ago. (the same is true of "liberalism" and the Democrat party) "Movement Conservatives" will probably make their political home in the Republican party for the foreseeable future, but its important to realize that not all Republicans are conservatives, and that not all the policies of the Republican party are part of aconservative program. I think your panelists should address whether their suggestions are aimed at furthering conservative principles, or the (relatively) near-term political political fortunes of the Republican party.
