McCain as Vader
by DarkHelmet1976

Throughout the campaign, I was struck by the superficial parallels between John McCain and Darth Vader.

Both started as young warriors, fighting for good. As time passed, they allowed their ambitions to distort their values and character, and both committed dishonorable acts in the pursuit of more power.

In the final scene of Jedi, Vader finds his conscience, and saves Luke's life. Luke then removes his mask to reveal a feeble old man, scarred and time-worn. I couldn't help but feel like McCain had his Jedi moment last night, in his concession speech, when he removed his own mask, and gave us a final glimpse of the good man he once was.

A little perspecive is necessary

For 40 years he's been a positive influence on our country. He get's angry for two month because the deck is stacked against him and you call him Vadar?

If you think McCain has been ruthlessly pursuing power for only the last two months (as you implied), then perhaps you've only been following his career for the last two months.

Until it became poisonous to be associated with Bush, McCain had hitched his political wagon to W, in the name of appealing to the Republican base. Not only did McCain abandon his moderate views and principles, but in the process, he aligned himself with a man who had accused him of fathering a child out of wedlock, and dragged his wife's drug addiction out into the light. McCain made these moral compromises, all in the name of power.

If that's not selling out, then I don't know what is.

Very interesting parallels. And when McCain took out his light saber and cut off Palin's hand with it, I thought, "Is this art of life?!"

How about calling your grandmother, the one who raised you and is now dying of cancer, a "typical white woman" for political points? Once your hysteria wears off, you'll see The One as just another self-serving politician; a sleazy reptile groomed in Chicago, America's dirtiest political cesspool.

Obama called her a "typical white woman" to provide context for her racial epithets, and to basically say, "Yes, she said hurtful words, but I know where and how she was raised and she didn't mean harm."

Way to make a volcanic mountain spewing with lava out of a molehill.

I like the analogy, and more than that, the Space Balls reference.

McCain lost my vote when he destroyed Alderaan

@Dark,

You're totally right. That's why he was the lead proponent of immigration reform and that's why he overcame the deadlock on judicial confirmations. That was just pandering to the right wing of his party because they LOVE immigrants and LOVE moderate judges.

And as for making up after 2000, that's what McCain does. The Vietnamese did far worse, but he was a vocal proponent of normalizing relations. Your mamma should have taught you that resentment, bitterness and regret will get you nowhere.

That was Tarkin, not Vader.

Yes, I am a nerd.

So what's the point where McCain/Vader throws the emperor into the reactor core; when he told Obama "I'm not George Bush"?

Both instances, he could have saved a lot of lives and pain if he had done it earlier.

Oh, and it's Grand Moff Tarkin.

I am also a nerd.

Your right it was Tarkin “I feel a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of votes suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced” We're both nerds.
