Huckabee told the truth-he is liberal

When I listend to Huckabee on cable TV yesterday I nearly spit out my coffee......here was a republican who speaks the way the democrats SHOULD be speaking. He spoke about a party which has sold its soul to corporate America needing to clean up its act-and he spoke of workers laid off and without insurance as CEOs and their cronies walked with million dollar bonus packages for steering their company into bankruptcy. He spoke about American workers being left in the cold and about greed in corporate America.....I hardly believed there was an "R" next to the guys name.

Traditionally, I hear democrats talk about the workers being shafted and the republicans typical response is that the stockholders make the rules for bonuses and it isnt the fault of capitalism or conservatives (read, tough shite). While Huckabee may be a Christian, that is hardly a conservative thing-democrats are big believers in charity and helping the poor-and Jesus spoke very little of profit motive being more important than compassion.

Perhaps the democrats should be talking to Huckabee as he may well be among the first candidates to "get it" about whats wrong in America today.

A populist Republican?

Not many of those around, and haven't been since, oh, LaFollette in the '20s and '30s.

Huckabee comes across as an honest man.

He''ll never make it in politics.

It is interesting that he's not getting more support in the Republican party. For all we talk about the influence of the "Religious right," Huckabee's unassailable Christian credentials and pro-life stands are not enough for him to hardly get mentioned. Why?

The only things I can figure out that he does wrong (vis a vis conservatives) is that he wants the government to try to help people, and he thinks we should eventually leave Iraq. This gives you an idea of the real priorities of the Republican party. They care about getting votes based on being anti-abortion, but they don't really care about doing anything about it. What they really care about is limiting progressive governmental action and towing the party line on Iraq.

The real truth about Mike Huckabee.

I'm a resident of Arkansas, and as such, I've been, um, blessed with 10 years of Huckabee as governor. Click here to read a blog post I wrote about him back in April. The main thrust of it:

Huckabee is a Baptist minister; as such, you might expect him to be an authentic man of peace (you know, like Jesus). Quite the contrary. Huckabee is a fanatic supporter of the war in Iraq. He authentically believes that Armageddon is coming and that Israel must be defended at all costs. He also is a big proponent of the death penalty, with sixteen executions occurring while he was in office, including a triple header--three in one day! Is he an authentic Christian? I'll let you decide.

Huckabee was the most corrupt governor Arkansas has had in recent memory. He accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gifts from supporters, used state aircraft for personal trips, stole furniture from the governor's mansion, and ignored admonishments from the state Ethics Commission. Besides being a crook, Huckabee was a constant embarrassment to the state. He referred to conservationists as "environmental wackos," called Arkansas a "banana republic" on the Imus show, and lived in a triple-wide mobile home on the Governor's Mansion grounds while the residence was being rennovated. His son once tortured a dog to death, with no reprisals. Huckabee is a creationist. There is no reason anyone should consider voting for this man as president of the United States; he'd make George W. Bush look like Abraham Lincoln Millard Fillmore.
