Wiccan Vegans
by Thppt
Forgive my ignorance but I have a question concerning Wiccan vegans. Wicca if I understand correctly is supposed to be a nature based belief system. In nature one animal consumes another animal with regularity; so it would seem that we humans as omnivores by nature would be expected to consume meat as is natural. So I would wonder if there is a vegan Wicca that could explain to an ignorant Christian raised agnostic how being a vegan fits into their beliefs? Just curious.

If you're looking for logic in Wiccan beliefs, I think you're going to be disappointed.

wicca seems to be a free for all kinda thing~i think everyone sort of does whatever he or she wants.

as far as veganism is concerned, eating animal products that were harvested in a sick, cruel, environmentally unfriendly way (factory farming) isn't exactly natural. it's not the same as hunting and gathering at all.

Rape is also natural. Does it surprise you when Wiccans aren't rapists?

The answer's pretty simple: you'd have to be retarded to be a vegan, and you'd have to be retarded to be a wiccan, so it's only natural that there'd be a lot of overlap.

As a vegan Wiccan/witch, I'll try to answer this for you. Part of my path is rather Buddhist, as in Wicca, we are encouraged to think for ourselves, and find the path that speaks to our heart, that comforts our soul, and which helps us to feel connected to all of Life.

I believe that all life is sacred; that we are all connected; and that taking good care of the Earth, life on it, and myself, is part of what I'm responsible for.

I am a Vegan partly for my health, for environmental reasons, and because I do not want to create suffering for any creature. It's a Karma thing.

As far as animals eating each other. Yes, they do. There are also animals that don't eat other animals. The natural world includes an incredible array of food that vegans enjoy, with no real nutritional need to eat an animal.

Hope this helps.
