Spread the wealth

Just to bring some smiles and giggles to y'all! So here is a story about spreading the wealth!

Yesterday on my way to lunch at Applebee's with my wife, I passed one of those homeless guys in the area with a sign that read, 'Vote Obama, I need the money!.'

Once in Applebee's, my waiter had on a 'Obama 08' tee shirt.

W
hen the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter and explained to him while he had given my wife and I exceptional service, that his tee shirt made me feel he obviously believes in Senator Obama's plan to redistribute the wealth, so I told him I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. He stood there in disbelief and angrily stormed away.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $3 and told him to thank the waiter inside, as I had decided he could use the money more than him. The homeless guy looked at me in disbelief, but seemed grateful.

As I got in my car, I realized this rather unscientific redistribution of the wealth experiment had left the homeless guy quite happy for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn.

Well....I guess this redistribution of wealth thing is going to take a while to catch on with those doing the work.

Thanks for the spam, doofus.

Got any thoughts of your own, or are you just a cut-and-paste type?

Also, the story is clearly made up, since last time I checked Applebee's waiters wore uniforms. I've never in my life seen a waiter wearing a political t-shirt. Loser.

Ooooo cranky can't have any laughs today! Why are people like you so uptight? And BTW, a friend of mine work's at Applebee'e here at home and YES THEY CAN WHERE THEIR OWN SHIRTS AS LONG AS THE MAIN COLOR IS BLACK! And she where an Obama and then a Palin shirt just to confuse people.

I do not believe in "redistributing MORE wealth" than is already being redistributed. Do some tax research and you will find the top 10% pay a total of 70% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay only 3% of taxes and the 50%-90% pay 27% of total taxes (Federal not state and local)

"people like me"? You mean people who are annoyed at cut-and-paste plagiarism passed off as a 'funny story' on the Fray? Wake me up when you say something funny, and I'll be happy to laugh.

I see you have no substance to any quality argument as to why Obama or McCain should be president. You have no sense of humor, and did I say I wrote that piece? And by the way, the website you directed to, it is not even their own original writing, this "story" as it has been floating AS A JOKE around the internet since September. Did you bash your Tech & Tonic guys for copying and pasting?

And do you have any substance or do you just spend your days trying to bash other people who just want to be able to take a joke and smile?

Anything on taxes? Healthcare? Defense?

You still have it backwards. You are the one posting someone else's fabricated, meaningless piffle on here. Why would I try to have a serious conversation with you? If you want to talk policy, post something with substance next time and I'm sure you'll get plenty of interesting responses. Maybe even some from me!

I do apologize for my earlier grouchiness--I just can't stand mindless cut-and-paste posts that are not acknowledged as someone else's words.

Re: Spread the wealth

I would have "acknowledged as someone else's words" had the person who originally created the joke signed it. Did you accuse your linked website of plagairism also?

And I did bring up a discussion, did you just overlook it? As stated earlier:

"I do not believe in "redistributing MORE wealth" than is already being redistributed. Do some tax research and you will find the top 10% pay a total of 70% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay only 3% of taxes and the 50%-90% pay 27% of total taxes (Federal not state and local)"

Sad day in this country when you can't even SHARE a joke and bring smiles to people's faces! I bet you're that guy who would flip me off if I smiled at you and said "have a nice day" because you would believe I have alterior motives for smiling and being nice.

Question: Why should corporations be trusted more to spread wealth than government? What's their incentive?
Re: Spread the wealth

Well we do need to put a stop to the CEO and board of directors pay, I TOTALLY agree with that. But taxing a corporation that provides jobs and goods will make the leaders of that corporation 1) cut back in spending and 2) raise prices and 3) ship jobs overseas where labor is cheap.

Once again:

Do some tax research and you will find the top 10% pay a total of 70% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay only 3% of taxes and the 50%-90% pay 27% of total taxes (Federal not state and local)

I've done tax research. Where do you get those numbers?

Why should anyone be trusted to spread their own wealth then? For starters, this is still a free country and we are allowed private property. Therefore what I earn is still mine and what a corporation earns is still theres. Second, the free market is the most efficient way to distribute goods and services. There are built in incentives to do things in the quickest and most cost effective manner, which is to generate a profit and benefit from the prosperity that brings. Pretty simple time proven equasion. The benefit for everyone else is that the business needs them as consumers and will likely bend over backwards to please them. It is a great symbiotic relationship. It is natural as a living organism. The quickest way to screw it up is to have some bureaucrat who has never done a thing except get a college degree start trying to manage the whole affair. It then becomes as slow and buggy as those old government computers still in use. It becomes more corrupt as various special interest learn that the only way to make it any more is to stick your hand out.

I can't remember what page it's on the Tax Policy Center's website ( I copied and pasted it months ago and still had the copy paste)

Many economists in the last few months have brought this up all over the internet, MSN Money, AOL Money, Yahoo Finances using the same percentage calculations.

Poor people are bad consumers, yet 200 years of American capitalism hasn't managed to end poverty. Do you think it's because those meddling bureaucrats keep getting in the way of corporations helping the poor?

Re: Spread the wealth

Hundreds of years of socialism, communism, dictatorship and all other forms of goverment across the world, ALSO have NOT ended poverty.

I am not voting for either candidate as I am not happy with either, but I will not give up my American Dream to give it to someone else who has no goals. What is going to happen is, corporations will start distorting their books and hide $$ overseas.
