I think at the age you are speaking of in this article, it is time to grow up and not expect everyone you know to celebrate your birthday with you in an extravagant way. I usually go to dinner or have people over for a frugal but good meal with cake. If I go out, it is probably to a local Italian restaurant where the entrees are no more than $10-15. Good food and good times do not have to cost an arm and a leg. I must have thankfully avoided befriending those who think otherwise.
