I'd guess the bastard woke up and discovered that his heart, on its own damned accord, actually started to grow and become warm, kinda like The Grinch, and so Cheney high tailed it on down to the Docs to have that shit stopped pronto and get what passes for his pumper back to it's cold, black hole state.

Stranger things in life an' all that...jazz, ya know.

It could very well be the realization, finally, that he has been living in a delusion, and he's been responsible for havoc, destruction and innocent deaths.

He may be confronted with what life will be like when he leaves the White House bubble. All will be illuminated... a weak heart would have a hard time standing up to the revelations he may have in the next 4-5 months.
