One of McCain's best friends is G. Gordon Liddy, a man who spent five years in prison for crimes during the Watergate era.

Google Liddy and you won't be so quick to jump on the Ayers train.

How effective has this entire line of attack been? The public recognizes that the accusations are hyperbole. The Ayers attack has been pretty much abandoned in favor of a new tactic: declarations that McCain's a fighter.
