Is it too late for McCain to step down? A write in ballot campaign for the Mitt Meister? They would probably get more votes than what they are about to get.

Yes, it is.

For one thing, for her to do so wouldraise real suspicions among her worshippers and likley would case many of those frothing 29%ers to bail on voting at all. The GOP in general and McCain specifically cannot affor to alienate those extremists as they are already unhappy wth the GOP in general for having been so dismissively exploited by BushCo.

Also, McCain can't dump as to do so would make him look like the confused old man he may very well be.

She can't bail as she thinks she's right as rain and she and her "first dude" have plans and know the GOPerv base wants her to stay as their real POTUS candidate. You can bet many are hoping, if Palin/McCain were to actually win, that McCain will croak the moment he takes oath and she'll step into that office.

Besides, it's just plain too damned late anyways. They both sunk that campaign with their evil rhetoric that incited the rabid Palin worshippers. Rhetoric and responses the whole nation and world has heard about and is studying.

It's too late in general

mccain would need a major move to stop his downhill trajectory, plus several more to boost him back up. It's not likely to happen in less than a month.
