Poor Librarians

The librarians I know have master's degrees. They have a respect for knowledge and education. They do not want books banned. They understand that when you start banning books for religious reasons, or for "PC" reasons, you're starting down a long slippery slope. They would never ban a book because a town's new mayor decided he or she didn't like certain words in the book.

Now they're being compared to Sarah Palin, the "sexy librarian."

I know librarians.

Believe me, Sarah Palin is no librarian.

She is smug, self-satisfied, intellectually lazy and she tries to get by using motivational speaker gimmicks. She's all bluff and bluster. That she's been able to win a few popularity contests is no surprise. But don't call her a librarian because there's no way this wannabe failed beauty queen with a degree in journalism (the broadcast kind, which was finally bestowed on her after attending 4 or 5 undergraduate institutions) is a match for a real librarian.

I'd also say "she isn't sexy, either" but that is purely subjective. To some men, a plastic inflatable replica of a female is sexy, so who am I to judge the sexy factor?

Sexy? Maybe. Librarian? Hell, no.

please shut the hell up. the liberals banned several books in my hometown library because they said they were offensive to some negroes.

get over yourself.

Your inane anger negatively affects your reading comprehension. The topic I'm talking about is librarians, not liberals. In my post, I clearly stated that librarians would not ban books for PC reasons as well as any other reason. PC means "politically correct."

No librarian banned a book in yoiur town. I doubt any "liberal" banned a book because it was offensive to "negroes" either.

Straw man much? Aw.. you probably don't know what straw man means. Look it up. Or ask your town librarian to look it up for you.

People object to books because they contain the word "nigger." This bothers them, and they want their children protected from the world of gratuitous white violence that brought us a century of lynch law. The presence of books containing racial insults in a public library is understood by some (not all) black folks and some (not all) liberals as an act of implicit violence.

That's a long way from what Sarah Palin wanted -- she wanted books removed from the library because she disagreed with them. While she has to pretend to be super tolerant regarding sexual difference, it's an act. She went along with the libertarian Alaska code on gender and choice because she didn't have the juice to stop it. She could have taken the moral position and been beaten in a good cause, but chose not to, for whatever reason.

Irving's a racist. He's also an asshole. I figure he's some butt-ugly sixteen hear old with purulent acne and premature hair loss. Other kids make fun of him cause he looks like a bald baboon. he thought it was funny to pretend to be chinese in this board. Feh.

the liberals down upon the suwannee river banned stephen forster songs in the public schools in alachua because they offended some negroes too.

I see her not as a librarian

I see her more as a small business owner running a successful company. No need to be uptight because her company is running well. Able to walk on the shop floor because her employees are happy being there. Able to impliment profit sharing because the company is doing well. Not allowing excessive perks to the managers.

Sexy? Maybe. Librarian? Hell, no.

where is the victimhood in that? listen buster. what are you trying to sell?

I'm not trying to sell her as a victim or a librarian, just a govenor that deserves to be judged by her actions in her state. If this country was run like Alaska we'd all be better off.

Why do you think Alaska is well-run?

Do you think that gas pipeline deal she put together (well, got other guys to put together) will actually work? The producers are still holding off and nobody has even committed to final plans for it. Meanwhile, she's acting like it's almost done. Meh.

Meanwhile, they hold off on simple road repair until they get pork from Washington to pay for it. Pay as you go is a myth there. And in Wasklla, when she was mayor, she launched a big city athletic facility when they still lacked road signs and sewers. Winter nights are long up there, and a nice gym helps to perk you up, so no problem, but where were her priorities?

She left a huge lawsuit hanging over Wasilla when she moved on, and now there's troopergate. Her only hope of evading THAT is to get elected vice-president. Do you detect a pattern?

"If this country was run like Alaska we'd all be better off."

Somehow, I don't think she'll get oil companies to give each American a $1,200 payout.

My mom's a retired librarian. I remember Mom's distressed phone call after Palin's first public speech as VP Candidate at the RNC. Mom was so utterly horrified in that what is the world coming to sort of way and it was just so distressing for me, trying to come up w/ reassurances of any kind. I mean, what could I possible say that would reassure her? The image of Palin in a library continues to haunt me and was actually the topic of my last blog entry. It is a short story about Palin:

<http://www.susannaspeier.com/blog>

The turning point of the story takes place in the Astor Reading Room of the New York Public Library and then in front, by the lions Patience and Fortititude. Doing the image research for this blog entry taught me that Major LaGuardia had named the Lions Patience and Fortitude as qualities he felt New Yorkers needed to get themselves through the Great Depression. Hopefully, we will be able to continue to honor Patience and Fortitude as virtues, rather than as necessities over the next four years.

The problem with that is...

Alaska has the US to pay all its bills. Who would pay Palin's bills for the US?

Excellent post

She may LOOK like the proverbial 'sexy Librarian,' but as you note, she isn't one. Not by a long shot.

I think she's reasonably attractive, but to be REALLY attracted, there has to be an intellectual component and a degree of honesty and 'realness' which she just doesn't possess.

She's a phony. End of story.

If there's anyone here

...who needs to "get over themselves," it's you, Irv. No wonder you're a Sarah suppoter - you're basically a dimwitted racist jerk.
