Isn't it possible...
by poncedeleon

that people voting for McCain are doing it because they view him as a rare hero on par with Washington, Grant, and Eisenhower in terms of service to country? Or that they have genuine concerns about a man who was a state senator 5 years ago leading during desperate economic times, genocidal maniac leading Iran, a resurgent Russia? That they have sincere views on protecting the unborn and seeing SCOTUS nominees who will not overwrite the will of the public in legislating from the bench? Don't want two branches of government controlled by what would be the most liberal executive and congress in world history?

If McCain wins (which I doubt), it will be for the above, not because we are a "fascist" or racist country.

If McCain wins it will be because the GOP used FEAR to get him there.

Funny, wasn't John Kerry the MOST LIBERAL politician in Washington in 2004?

You guys have nothing but FEAR itself!

Right, like telling people that Republicans will cut social security, give tax breaks only to "the rich" (I prefer to call them "the hard working and successful"), or take away health insurance from children and the elderly. And to ever question the character or associations of Obama as being racist and out of bounds. No scare tactics used there, right?

I believe that most people voting for either candidate do it because that candidate holds the same position on issues.

There are some that vote along party lines, others that vote for personality and still others that don't like either one but feel a duty to vote anyway.

I am reluctant to call anyone fascist, socialist, communist, nazi, terrorist or any other name. I vote for the one I think is serious in his/her committment to this country and someone who has the ability to choose smart, dedicated advisors and will not be a running joke for 4-8 years.

I admire intelligence, common courtesy, and a certain seriousness when dealing with important issues.

OK dipshit...I will spell it REAL SLOOOOWWW for you...

This is from personal experience:

My company employed 49 people in 1999-2000. We now employ 12 people. WHAT HAPPENED IN THESE LAST 8 YEARS?

In 2000, our insurance plan carried an affordable deductable w/the same for prescriptions ($5 per). Today, the company cannot pay for these health care plans and the burden is on the workers. Today, our deductable is $1000 and prescriptions cost $40!

My 401K and portfolio was also beautiful and I hoped to buy a second home, today? What a fucking joke! I can only hope we don't close our doors.

So, tell me....WHAT GOOD HAS A REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED GOVT GOT US except less of a future, no early retirement and THE SHAFT?

By the way, some Rich folk were bron that way and consequently do not have to WORK any harder due to their luck of the draw from being born into money.

Also, Obama didn't set up the rules of racism...RACISM did!

The will of the people

By a 2 to 1 margin, Americans want us OUT of Iraq. A majority of Americans think we screwed up Afghanistan by going into Iraq. A majority believe abortion should remain safe and legally available. Three forths of Americans are concerned about global climate change. By a 2 to 1 margin, Americans believe everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, even if it means higher taxes. Half of all Americans believe gay couples should have the same rights heterosexual couples, and more than half oppose a constitutional ban on gay marriage. Three forhts of Americans disapprove of the way George Bush has handled the economy. Over half of all Americans believe Obama has better plans to get us out of our current criseses, while fewer than 1/3rd believe in John McCain.

When Barack Hussein Obama Jr. becomes the 44th POTUS, it will be by "the will of the people".

You're so "right".

Its possible, but the stupidity that's being demonstrated by Palin and McCain suggests they don't believe you.

McCain is far from a "rare hero". His story is the story of millions of ordinary Americans who served over the years with the exception that 99.9 percent of those Americans never had a head start like McCain. To compare McCain to Washington, Eisenhower or Grant is a joke. Those men were inspirational leaders, John McCain is nothing of the sort.

I consider my father, who at 19 years old jumped out of planes into France and Holland and later wound up in Belgium where he had a nice chunk of flesh torn off his right leg, much more of a hero than McCain. My father came from nothing, vounteered to fight the nazis, after the war went to college, then graduate school and went on to have a very successful career. He's 83 now and in perfect shape for a man his age and he would never consider bragging about his accomplishments. He did all this on his own, without the help of connections and protections that weren't available to him.

The first time I voted was 1980, the year I turned 18. Never in all that time have I seen a serious candidate resort to the twisted, hateful, garbage that McCain is now attempting. He is an embarassment to himself and makes Bush look like a choirboy.

If you think McCain has more experience that's fine. That's a 100% legitimate reason for you, not that you need to justify your vote. I believe, however, that he clearly doesn't have more competence or character than Obama. At one time he appeared to be a man of honor, he is now a common hack.

I'll have to take the word of my next door neighbor who was a year behind McCain at the USNA. His wife and McCain's first wife were close friends. He's not voting for McCain. Neither is my father.

Good luck with the important exercise of your right (and duty) to vote.

You stared off strong with the "I will spell it REAL SLOOOOWWW for you..." line, but then you offered the demise of the company that employees you as evidence that Republicans screwed everything up? There are an infinite number of reasons why your employer might be failing. And one of them is very likely NOT "because of the Republicans."

It would benefit this country greatly if we held our political leaders accountable for their actions regardless of party affiliation. Your blind faith in the Democratic party is as equally dangerous as a conservative'b blind faith in the Republicans. All that fanaticism creates is an environment like we have now. Corrupt politicians basing all thier decisions on two things: "will this get me elected/reelected?" and "how much money can I make?" Put the kool-aid down and step toward critical thinking...

That McCain is even close in comparison to Washington, Grant (except maybe as a drunkard), or Eisenhower. You insult the memories of these great men using Mccaoin's name in the same sentence.

We had all three branches of the government controlled by one of the most conservative groups ever and we can see whata mess they have made. It will be up to the liberals to cleanit up, just like they do every time.

You tlak about Obama's character and associations but brush off McCain's and Sarah's as unimportant and irrelevant. You just are pissed that McCain is a loser.

There is really very little in the way of defense of John McCain here on the Fray or anywhere else in the body politic - if you listened carefully at the VP debates, Joe Biden prefaced every statement with a reference to Obama - Palin hardly mentioned McCain.

People that are adamantly opposed to Obama for president are typically lukewarm at best about McCain for president. And it is not just McCain. It is no coincidence that McCain was picked for the Republican Presidential Nominee. Not one of the others in the fray were anything close to a decent consideration.

You can not run a successful presidential campaign on the grounds that you don't like the opposition. You have to have a reason to vote for your candidate first.

That is why McCain is failing. Nobody is that enthusiastic about him.
