I'm thoroughly committed to having ACORN do any further registering of voters. They have no right to be in business. It's true that 5,000 were dumped here in Lake Country, registrations that took place in July. Another 1,000 are pending investigation.
The problem is that ACORN hires people to register voters and they're paid $1 per registration. The Obama volunteers have registered thousands here and are unpaid--strictly volunteer. Every singel regisdtration is thoroughly documented, entered into the Obama data base along with the documtentation and then the registrations are turned over to the county. Even though 40 additional poll workers have been hired in Lake County, anticipation is there will be a record turnout.
Problems are occurring in the early voting. The poll books can't keep up with the influx of new voters so some who have tried to vote have been turned away until they can be entered. The Republicans have litigation pending in an attempt to forestall placing voting booths in court houses in East Chicago, Hammond and Gary. State law allows voters to vote "in a court house". Each of the cities have a court house. If the Republicans win in this attempt to suppress the vote, everyone will have to go to the county court house and there's no mass transit . No problem there, though, since Obama volunteers have fleets of cars and buses to transport those who need a ride to the polls.
