If Obama wins the election......
by Chief

will all the Republikans become obstructionists? They seem to have a "Whatever it is, I'm against it" posture when they lose.

The country needs to come together, as it did under John Kennedy. I doubt the Republikans are up to it in this post-Rove age of swift-boating, lying, and cheating. The Republikans have turned the US into a big septic system...just ask the middle class.

All Americans worthy of the name will obstruct socialism, not just Republicans, because socialism is unconstitutional, fascist, and anti American.

Everybody can and should join together, and I hope that is the kind of presidency obama intends.

If it's just socialism, it will be opposed, without limit.

Regardless of whoever wins the election, I feel strongly that most Americans will want to put "America First" and band together against our common issues and enemies.

We need to come together as a Country just like we did after we were attacked after 911.

Don't be too quick to reject socialism...socialism is what is bailing out capitalism these days.

That's a pretty safe bet, Chief.

Referring to Obama and his policies as 'socialist' is a pretty good example.

I think this election will wake up the republicans in DC. They have moved way to the left to the point conservatives find them to be as disgusting as the democrats.

I hope the republicans will fight almost everything Obama proposes.

Why do you think America will come together behind Obama when he is way left of the mainstream?

You mean socialism like the financial market bailout that Bush championed or socialism like buying the bad mortages of home owners like McCain champions?
Chief, I see it differently.

When the gops lose this time around, they may wish to be obstructionists, but they may not have that choice....for a coupla reasons:

-First off, if the Democratic Congress, the Senate in particular, are able to gain sizeable enough majorities, the obstructive-gop wannabes, will be reduced to effective toothlessness.

-And..if as is looking more likely all the time, Obama wins by a considerable magin - thereby achieving a "mandate" - the obsructors will be left way outside, looking in. I'm anticipating a sort of 1980 Reagan affect, where Democrats like me, could shriek all we wanted, but no one was listening to a word we said. Instead, for all practical purposes, all they did was point at us and laugh.*

*as an aside...who's laughin' now!

If socialist insults to liberty such as your examples are to be the normal operating mode of our government, then yes, that's where there will be a fight.

Two very good examples that prove Mr. Bush and McCain are not conservatives. The are liberal republicans. Our slide towards socialism started with Wilson and FDR and was only slowed slightly by Reagan.

The "change" Obama offers is an acceleration down the wrong path we have been on for the last 100 years.

slowed slightly by Reagan.

I would call Reagan's support of amnesty for illegals very socialist.....

Explain how that is Socialist?

It was a bad idea, but hardly socialist. Libertarians are the most strident anti-socialists in America, yet most support open borders.

The Cons are down to calling everything "socialist" again. Its their hustle of last resort.

Also, they seem to mix up what are nothing but simple economic instruments with religion, "redistribution" is bad, unless, of course, Bush wants to cut THEIR taxes; taxation is bad, unless, of course, there are taxes levied on US to pay them to take our jobs away to China etc. You get the idea.

To them, taxation is socialist, the stupid lazy s*(#*($hts, never mind that every kingdom and state since Rome taxed, DUH! Socialism was not even a word until the late 1800s, for God's sake.

The purpose of federal taxes is to pay for the constitutionally required functions of the federal govt. The tax system should treat all citizens equally under the law. Our current tax system is extremely complex and oppressive.

See fairtax.org for a plan that is progressive, treats all citizens equally under the law and encourages corporations to move to or stay in the US. It will never pass because it takes power away from the federal government.

Socialists do not want that, they want to expand federal power.

And Democrat = socialism?

As Republikan = Nazi?
