Obviously neither one of you knows what he is talking about. I do not know of a single state that allows big game hunting with such a small cal. weapon. The M-16 is just a military weapon, though some fools use them for target shooting. As a retired law enforcement officer, I did belong to the NRA but I dropped out when their leader, that wouldn't know a bb gun from a rocket, supported teflon bullets and automatic military weapons.

...oh and Trigger, an AR-15 and an M-16 are the same thing - one is legal for civilians to own (AR-15) and the other is not (M-16). The M-16 is capable of firing fully automatic and the AR-15 isn't.

Thank you for your most informative post. I come from a family of hunters and I hear them talking guns all the time. I never owned one, I hate the things, but I think people should be able to own them if they want to. It's that freedom thing I get all squishy about.

I much prefer swords and bladed weapons having been in martial arts.

I had one of those - several actually - at my disposal and I also had an M-203. That's an M-16 with a grenade launcher slung under it.

Never thought much of that carbine. I qualified expert on it, but it didn't seem like it had much power or range.

I really liked the M-60. That was a weapon! Maybe those NRA guys are just pussies.

But seriously, I don't think Barak Obama is part of the wing of the Dems who will give irrelevant cannon fodder to the Cons like this gun control crap.

Frankly, I think this whole thing was to get a lot of Republicans elected who were only Dems on the basis of gun control, very handy if you want to do a lot of things the Republicans are fighting for!! Very handy if you are a "New Democrat".

But on the merits of the issue raised, I'm a Dem, I know how to shoot, shot a 22 rifle, a carbine rifle, garand rifle, shotgun, Colt-45 and 27 Magnum. I don't agree with the Dems on gun control...because I think it is a human right to be able to defend yourself, if you have to.

As to Ms. Palin on this issue, I think that shooting moose and wolves from a helicopter is about as sporting as a nuke down the throat of, say, Nagasaki (its that second nuke I have a problem with).

I shudder to think what would happen if I ever ran for office. I'm not a gun nut by any stretch of the imagination, but there is a photo of me floating around somewhere posed with an M-16 in full punk-rocker-chick regalia standing in front of a guy with a mohawk. I'm pretty sure my campaign would end before it began.

There are many reasons to dislike Palin, but I don't think the fact that she posed with a gun is one of them.

When you're shooting animals from a helicopter, you're doing it to control the population, not for hunting purposes. They do it here in Wisconsin to control the deer population all the time.

We try to avoid using nukes, although the nuclear winter does make deer easier to track.
