Football Widow
by lotsahoney

this letter reminds me of a hilarious story:

girlfriend and boyfriend go out to dinner for 2 year anniversary. after dinner but before dessert, boyfriend looks into girlfriend's eyes and says "i can't wait to marry you". girlfriend begins to feel a lump in her throat with thoughts of an impending proposal on her mind. and then he finishes his sentance..."because we can get married in the summertime and then our anniversary won't be during footbal season. what are you having for dessert? i'm thinking cheesecake."

My ex is an avid SPORTS fan. On our wedding day he spent the better part of the reception at the bar watching either a pre-season football game or a baseball game (I can't remember which anymore). Since receptions seem to be more about socializing with the guests it really did not bother me since he would break away from the game for the important things. When I was in the hospital in labor with my oldest he was in the room watching tennis. Not a problem, since there really wasn't much he could do for me anyway, at least he was there. He and my daughters love baseball and to compromise we planned most of our vacations so that it included going to see at least one game. I like sports but I am not a fanatic and I never saw his obsession with sports as a really big deal since he fulfilled his responsibilities to his family.

My friend got married during the Mets / Yankees subway series. During the reception most guys and some girls (including myself, I'll confess) piled into the bar (where the TV was) to catch some of the game. The bride and groom were gracious, but I felt sorry for them. Once the game was over, the reception was a blast!
