The influence of Red Dawn
by Philadelphia Steve

The author forgot to mention the other aspect of Red Dawn's influence on the political Right: Dan Quayle's citing the movie as irrefutable proof (to him) that America would prevail.

The Republican Party did not treat Red Dawn as a work of fiction. To them it was a documentary.

Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey are Democrats and starred in the film.

I suppose that means Red Dawn is actually a manifesto of Democratic response to an attack by the USSR and the ultimate in your face to the Republican Party.

No. That means that, unlike Quayle and his ilk, Thompson and Grey can tell the difference between reality and fiction. Just in case you're wondering, even though Thompson also starred in "Back to the Future", it doesn't mean she thinks DeLoreans can travel through time.

Don't tell Dan Quayle that. He's probably pushing for an SDI spin off program based on clips from the move right now.
