Stick around.

HAP, I noticed you said goodbye at Faith-Based as well. I hope you're not quitting Slate to spend more time watching the stock market go up and down.

As I said in another thread, it's time like these when we truly need the beauty of poetry.

If you have found that Slate's discussion boards are taking up too much of your time, I truly hope you will come up with a plan that allows you to spend at least some time here. You have been a fine and fun addition to the PoemsFray, and I would hate to see you go.

(And don't worry about saying "goodbye" and then changing your mind. I've done it a couple of times myself.)

The Fabric of Life
by Kay Ryan

It is very stretchy.
We know that, even if
many details remain
sketchy. It is complexly
woven. That much too
has pretty well been
proven. We are loath
to continue our lessons
which consist of slaps
as sharp and dispersed
as bee stings from
a smashed nest
when any strand snaps—

hurts working far past
the locus of rupture,
attacking threads
far beyond anything
we would have said
connects.

HAP, you should stay.

If you're leaving, I hope it's for a reason that makes you HAPpy. It's been a pleasure.

Well HAP, it was time for you to go; not only on Slate, but in my personal life as well. This has been a seminal experience. In my creative writing (such as it is) I will now refer to myself as HP, as I currently do in my private life. HAP, you were not a bad pen name; perhaps I did a disservice to you. I bid you adieu!

Fresh starts provide new vistas and opportunities. I will try to choose and use them wisely.

If poetry is a dog that can hunt, I am the wag that is tailing that dog. I will try to keep the waggin’ pertinent and on point.

I pulled this off a website months ago while doing research on a poem I was writing. I’m sorry I can’t give it better attribution: “The three occasions that the ass saw the Angel, he explains, represented the three transitionary stages necessary to transform an animal from a living creature into the higher level of one that speaks. For the latter contains three inherent qualities: the power of growth, the power of movement and the power of speech. So each time the ass saw the Angel, it acquired one of these three qualities”.

I will try to live up to my new pen name.
