Reconcilliation by Walt Whitman for nelson46
by waltz and capsize
Word over all, beautiful as the sky!
Beautiful that war, and all its deeds of carnage, must in time be utterly lost;
That the hands of the sisters Death and Night, incessantly softly
wash again, and ever again, this soil'd world:
... For my enemy is dead--a man divine as myself is dead;
I look where he lies, white-faced and still, in the coffin--I draw near;
I bend down, and touch lightly with my lips the white face in the coffin
.

Walt Whitman

nelson, the first time i read this, it travelled inward so deep, so fast. when i read this first time, the white face was my own. it was the face of me contentious, spiteful, despairing.

people can change.

may your better self find a comfortable chair at poemsfray.

That's why I think of myself as a regular. If you have listened to the band Replacements, there's a song about being a regular. I'm not a drinker, and the song is about one, but it's the tone. You've noted the tone is of increasing value waltz and capsize.

I became aware of this quite some time ago, but it was after I saw that "white face". So you read me and I you.

btw, my daughter brought me a very comfortable chair last week, what a coincidence you choose those words?

Best regards,

Rick Nelson
