What about Black Churchgoers?

The new post indicates that "Churchgoers are still Republicans" What about African-Americans, who have one of the highest church attendance rates, yet consistently vote Democratic. Also, I believe that a distinction should be made between evangelicals and churchgoers. While the former are wholeheartedly Republican, I think that the Democrats are improving among the latter.

There are three types of religious people:

Those who follow the true precepts of religion - the tolerant and charitable aspects. Black church goers fit this.

Those into the mystical aspects.

Those into the multi-level marketing aspects.

When one talks about right wingers and fundamentalism, its primarily the third type. They view the first two types as not "true believers" since they have been effectively sold a bill of goods. Their "leaders" do not want them taking their donations elsewhere so they effectively promote this notion.

To get a PhD in their bible colleges, one must demonstrate expertise in this skill.

My take is even different from this. You do have some very liberal churches, like Episcopalian. To me, an Evangelical is one who preaches to masses, and wants to recruit people. There are different types of evangelicals, some are more liberal than others. And yes, some evangelicals want to move away from the moral crusade and focus on social justice and environmental stewardship. Then there's the Fundamentalists, which would be the most conservative, bible is inerrant types. Churchgoer is just a word that describes people who go to Church, not what type of church or how hard their theology is.

Like him or not, Barak Obama is the first Democrat since Carter to openly talk about his faith. I remember when Carter talked about being a Baptist and praying to God, the Democrats laughed at him. They acted like he was delusional! And then they wonder why religious people tend to go Republican? This isn't rocket science.

are you kidding me? None of your 3 "points" make any sense. When is the last time YOU were a regular attendee at a Christian church?
