When I was young and impressionable, my mother impressed upon me a creed that I thought was universal: Actions speak louder than words. That means I shouldn't go around telling me friends: "I'm a good kayaker." Or "I'm a good father." And I especially don't blankly tout my fathering skills if the record indicates otherwise, if, for example, my kids are routinely expelled from school for drugs, fights, or what have you.
I just do it and let my actions speak for themselves.
Apparently McCain's mother didn't teach him this same creed. McCain's "I'll get Osama Bin Laden, my friends. I know how to get him. I know how to do it" line isn't the first of this variety. He's said the same thing about winning wars, fixing the economy and working across the aisle. He's never offered ANY specifics or even basics about how he would go about accomplishing any of these goals, which I might add, would probably require more mental might than one man can muster.
I'm sure a large percentage of Americans will take McCain at his lofty words and never question how he knows how to fix the economy, catch bin Laden and win wars. They'll never look for proof of his super-human competence in his actions. Probably because if they did, they'd find McCain has no evidence to support his lofty thesis. In fact, they'd probably find evidence to the contrary.

If John had a such a great idea, the patriotic American thing to do would be to (secretly bunky) tell our military/current president/condy Rice what-not, rather than hold this amazing plan to himself. You see, by choosing the second option, it appears that he considers winning the presidency to be more important than getting the guy responsible for 911. or, more likely, as this poster suggested, he is a liar who really only says he has a plan.

Unlike McCain, Obama is not bragging that he knows how to do it. He is simply saying that we need to put much more effort into it.

Lord knows your hippie candidate isn't even attempting to convince voters that he's planning on doing anything but sitting by while our country let the world run wild on itself until everyone is dead. One is a claim unsupported by evidence. The other is a call to action. Huge difference. The operative word in McCain's statement is "I", Obama says "we".

Try this analogy - imagine a family just finding out that a recently deceased patriarch had been running the family business into the ground. At the family meeting, two brothers get up and ask to be picked the president of the company. The younger brother, Barry, says, "Hey, we're in a pickle, but we'll get through this. We'll pay the creditors, we'll find this investors." The older brother, Johnny says, "Barry doesn't know what he's talking about. I know how to get us out of the mess."

Knowing nothing else about Barry and Johnny and their business acumen, the family is more likely to be comfortable with Barry's leadership. They hear "I know how to fix this", and infer, "Trust me on this, don't you worry your pretty little heads." They think, how is he going to do it? Is he going to go to some loan shark? Is he going to Vegas and try to gamble the money back? Who the hell knows?

The thing is, we do know a little bit about Barry and Johnny. Neither are exactly experts in business, but Barry at least knows to listen to people like Rubin and Lindsey. Johnny, on the other hand, takes financial advice from Phil Gramm, was against the AIG bailout before he was for it, and still doesn't seem to know what "fundamentals" means (seriously, what does he mean when he says our workers are the "best importers"?). Sorry, I'm not going to trust brother Johnny with the family fortune.

I do not know who you are or think you are but you speak with a blank mind and a forked tongue. At least John does not pretend to be as smart as God.

Well, McCain is old enough that he will soon see God and have the opportunity to debate him as to who is the smarter.

Actually, the reason McCain is so grouchy and irritable lately is that he has been in secret training for special ops, so he's just exhausted. He's going in solo to get the job done. It hasn't been decided whether he'll parachute in or infiltrate by land, disquised as a Muslim warrior. Once he has killed OBL, he'll turn his ire on the Taliban and show them just what a man driven insane by five years of torture can do when he's pissed off and heavily armed. He'll then march home to the tune of "When Johnny comes marching home again, hoorah, hoorah! The men will cheer, the boys will shout, the ladies will all turn out, and we'll all feel GAY when Johnny comes marching home."
