"..it looks like I'm losing"
by david wayne osedach

Although McCain did not come out of the debate as a clear loser - it is clear that he is in fact losing. We know it. He knows it.

Never-the-less he stood up to Obama. A brave amd positive stance for the defeated Republican Party.

Wait...McCain is not a republican, he's a Maverick, isn't he?

Overall, I have to commend the Republicans on running the absolutely most competitive presidential race possible. In an election where they should have had absolutely no chance, they've put up a good fight.

McCain is like the football team that is down by 27 points in the 4th quarter. They know they have virtually no chance, but they're still going to try to make a game of it. You have to respect that.

Oh, and go Obama/Biden!

Yes, the McCain Palin team is far behind. McCain didn't score any points but he didn't fumble too badly either.

Of course he needed a touchdown (several actually) and didn't even get a field goal or a safety.

Here's the thing, no matter who is winning -- by demonizing your opponent, turning voters against one another, and resorting to lies and hatred to try to keep your campaign afloat, you render the country ungovernable no matter who wins. If John McCain truly wanted to put country first, he would not be trying his damndest to drive wedges in the populace and render the next president -- whoever it is -- incapable of leading us collectively.

Do you think Bush worried about whether the country would be governable in 2000 and 2004? Of course not. His goal was to simply get into office and then use to the benefit of his cronies and supporters.

McCain is simply following the same play book.

I think the saddest thing about this moment in politics is that McCain just figured out he lost..by all the issues, by personality, by weight of historical prologue..

And he has to make a decision..tough it out and probably lose..or become a Bush/Cheney republican with a slim(e) chance of winning..

So he picked the meanest of the high school cheerleaders to act as his attack dog..and what do we call a female dog??? But he doesn't even remotely care what will happen to her career after he loses. Nice.

And now he's decided to use the Karl Rove playbook in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter.

Way to sell your soul John...extremely dissappointing, really.

Very well said Rocket.

McCain may have put country first at some point, but this is no longer his plan.

McCain was a Maverick, he is no longer, and has not been for about 71/2 years.

I think the Republicans are putting up a good fight because we are in a presidential system rather than a parliamentary system. Its an informal observation of mine but I noticed that when the governing party in a parliamentary system messes up they tend not to try too much in the next elections.
