The problem is, you can't blame the mortgage meltdown on capitalism. It was a pure social engineering experiment that went horribly wrong and both parties were equally guilty. The repub led move to free up the mortgae industry from oversight and the dem led pressure on lenders to loan to anyone, reagrdless of income, job, or abilty to pay was a twofold punch that resuted in total disaster.

The government never could do much right, because they put their faith in lazy, brainless bureaucrats to run things for them. The private sector does a lot right, but in the face of this situation, which let greed run amok, you get disaster form both sides.

Greed is a basic human fault that will always be with us, but how much can you legislate it away. Without soviet or mao style communism, where you are shot for appearing greedy, there is no simple solution. So what now? Tell the cops to kill all greedy people? There won't be anyone left.
