I encourage sound conservation measures and sound ecological practices, but I do agree with you that industry has been regulated to death. I see it on a regular basis in my workplace.
Regarding Clinton and an impending recession, quite true. Bush inherited a plethora of problems that weren't really his making. Though it also has to be opined that some of his solutions to these problems left much to be desired.
Which will in turn give his successor, Republican or Democrat, a plethora of problems that Bill Clinton never had to deal with.
Clinton in fact sowed a lot of the seeds of the social destruction we see around us today. Not the least of which was selling us out to the goddamned Chinese.
Which is something I will never forgive him for.
When you talk about Democrats, you're preaching to the chior here. I haven't been a Democrat since 1976. And the Democrats at the national level have been sadly out of touch with their constituency since 1964.
I think the only reason I was a Democrat in my youth was because I had a fear and mistrust of Richard Nixon, who now looks like a saint and boy scout to me compared to what I've seen since he left office. Outside of Gerald Ford and the elder George Bush anyway. I wasn't a fan of either but they weren't objectionable to me either.
I actually like Reagan, but his economic policies totally blew me away. As do the younger George Bush's.
In my section of the country Bill Clinton was a dirty word. Even his supporters here would shake their heads in disbelief and consternation when his name was mentioned.
Ah well, we all make mistakes it would seem.
I don't know what the sentiment for Obama is like outside of Oklahoma, but I can guarantee he won't carry this state. No Democrat had carried Olahoma since 1964 when LBJ carried the state. And then only because the perception was that Goldwater wanted to escalate the war in Vietnam.
Which is something Johnson did anyway.
As for the airline industry, I haven't been on a plane since September 2000 when I flew to Newark, New Jersey to go on a cruise from New York to Bermuda (I wish I'd stayed there). After that I said never a fucking again. And this was a year before 9-11.
I probably wouldn't even get through airport security without getting arrested. Heavy-handed authority always gets my dander up, and incompetence is even harder to deal with.
I'll just go Greyhound and hope I don't piss any armed whackos off on the trip.
I've actually rode a donkey before. Much prefer a mule. Even to a horse. Somewhat stubborn, but damned intelligent animals. The donkey combines a horse's lack of intelligence and good sense with a mule's stubborness.
Which is no doubt why the Democrats adopted it as their national party symbol.
