How is fighting in Iraq keeping Americans free?

a) It provides jobs for the "defense" industry which helps prop up our economy - which is failing due to massive expenditures on war

b) It defeated a foreign tyrant who was somehow "threatening" us with weapons he didn't actually turn out to have

c) It provides a place to send your kids to fight and provide politicians with street cred

d) other

I have just this minute, from The Great and Magnificent OZ...uhhhh Presidential...uhhhh, VP Candidate Palin, learned that it's to protect our right to protest...

Who knew?

Fighting in Iraq has absolutely, positively, nothing at all to do with our freedom. Our "freedom" was not threatened by Iraq, or actually anybody. Our "safety" is threatened every day by terrorists, but fighting in Iraq is only making our safety less likely. But yammering on about our freedom being threatened makes this occupation sound more acceptable.

...it keeps Iran from taking over. Thereby controlling far more of the world's oil supply than can be allowed.

If we help the Iraqi people get themselves standing up, then we've made the best of the bad decision to invade in the first place.

If we leave now, or anytime before the Iraqis can provide for their own security, the Iraniains will move in and interject utter chaos on not only the Iraqi nation, but the world oil markets as well.

I was going to post the same question.

Apparently, any time America choses to invade another country it is to defend our Consitutional Right to invade other countries whenever we feel like it.
...OMG, you don't really believe that do you?

...do you know anything about the region?

...don't you know that no one on the face of this earth was happier than the Iranians when we toppled Saddam?

...who do you think has reigned in Mutada Al Sadr? The surge? Please...

...the Iranians LIVE in the region, they can wait us out easily. The sooner they cooled things down the sooner the US leaves and then guess what...

Your sincerity is appreciated.

But there's two problems with that.

...it keeps Iran from taking over. Thereby controlling far more of the world's oil supply than can be allowed.

That's half true. The problem is that it ignores the fact that Iran's power in the region has grown massively as as result of the Iraq invasion. Iran is the one clear winner of the Iraq war.

Also you are equating U.S. control of oil markets with "our freedom."

Can you see how that's not exactly the same thing?

...and of course we all know what a "Constitutional"...

Corrupt....how does it "keep Iran from taking over"...

to replace the Iraqi government that was Sunni and hated the Shiia Iranians for 25 years...

with an Iraqi SHIITE government that has the Iranians over for tea?!??!?

The Iranians must be a soverign nation...

..if they fall due to our leaving to soon it will be a human disaster of unreal proportions.

We broke it, we have to fix it.

It's that simple.

And even now, it looks like things are going far better than was projected even a year ago...thanks to the surge.

Of course, Obama is trying to take credit for it, but that doesn't wash with anyone other than Hopeheads.

It is not important for you to believe in the Mission

It is only important for the Military to believe in the Mission.

The Left hates the Military..... they always have, they always will.

Don't worry. We wouldn't deploy the military if at all possible anyway.

But what does concern me is the implication of your sentiment (and I've read it often from Rock, too): if Obama wins, will they fight if necessary? Will they take orders from Obama?

This "we" you Post of, just who would that be?

Get back with me and I may be able to answer your question.
