McCain channels Jerry Falwell, again
by TomFitz

A couple of years ago, John McCain accepted an honorary degree from Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.

In 2000, McCain had attacked Falwell and Pat Roberstson as
"agents of intolerance".

Years later, he was up on stage with the agent of intolerance showing the world that there wasn't anyone he wouldn't pander to to be present.

Well, Liberty U is poised to do its bit in support of Sen. McCAin's courageous pander.

On election day, Liberty University will be closed. All 10,000 students are being encourageed to vote, and the University went to lengths to try and register as many as they could in Virginia.

There will be concerts and the curfew will be lifted so students can watch the results on giant screen TV's.

With Viriginia a battleground state, tilting toward Obama, this is Falwell (actually Falwell Jr's) payback.

There's an outside chance that it may work.

Polls are pretty tight, but Obama has been in a consistant but very narrow lead for some time.

I do not miss the SR.Falwell and I have not seen Jr.

but I think it is a good idea to let the students go vote and to watch the results

Falwell Sr. pretty much ruled Lynchburg, and surrounding Bedford and Campbell Counties like a political boss.

Things were awfully quiet in town the day he died.

I think this gesture is one of desperation.

The GOP has lost the last two close statewide elections, both of which drew national attention (George "macaca" Allen being one of the victims).

They're poised to lose this one.
