Because anonymus internet polls at always legitimate. Nope, no way anyone could hack those.

AOL is more of a IPS for beginners and older people because of its ease of use. And since it doesn't require a broadband provider, people with dial up are more likely to use it. These are generally rural people and those in urban environments which are too small to have a local internet hub.

These are conservative demographics, so it is understandable that the straw poll would be tilted toward McCain.

closer (in Obama's favor), than have been AOL polls cited earlier. I've seen them as skewed as 84%+ for McCain. Of course these polls must be taken with shakers of salt, but they aren't utterly useless. There's some information to be gleaned from the way they evolve over time.
