...or rather, will be later in his career, Nathan Englander. The others mentioned at the top of this article--Pynchon, Roth, DeLilo et al--while prodigious and hugely talented, are too idiosyncratic and occasionally profane. They lack the largeness of vision a Nobel laureate should have.

So Joyce and Nabokov, two idiosyncratic and occasionally profane writers, didn't deserve the Nobels? Good, since they didn't get them.
