Media's Palin Problem
by reopines
+1 Reply

One of the most frequently mentioned aspects of the Biden-Palin debate was that Biden had to be careful not to come off as bullying, condescending or behaving in any way that would encourage sympathy for Palin.

The media has the same problem. In a ratings-based world, they can't afford to come off as mean to Palin either. Their popularity is also at stake - and that's literally their stock in trade.

Not that I disagree, but it is pretty surreal when you consider she introduced herself as a pitbull in lipstick. Who knew she was refering to her intellectual capacity?

But the media have been here before. While they cut Gerladine Ferraro a lot of slack, they didn't do the same for her mob-connected husband. So what about Todd? He's caught a lot of interesting little breaks, businesswise, since the little lady went into politics. What worries me is, the press has laid off on him too. Either there's nothing there, which I doubt, or they're stockpiling material for after the election.

I also find it interesting that whereas the political world seemed quite horrified when they discovered that Hillary Clinton actually had political opinions that her husband sometimes listened to, everyone seems to take it for granted that Todd Palin should be his wife's chief 'unofficial' adviser, even to sitting in on meetings and receiving cc's of emails. Are we to assume that, as a female, she is incapable of acting without her husband's guidance?

Actually, I suspect most members of the "media" look at Toddy and figure him for a meat puppet. Maybe it's the mullet. The man looks like a cretin, has zero education, so what would you think?
