Why Conservative Comedy Sucks
by Thrasymachus
+1 Reply

With "An American Carol" bombing at the box office, conservatism's chronic unfunniness is on painful display once again. Those of us who have winced through the awful "Half-Hour News Hour" on Fox (now mercifully cancelled) or the risible comedy stylings of the right's numerous Limbaughs and Coulters should not be surprised to see this movie tanking.

Conservatives just have to face up to the fact that they suck at comedy. Because conservatism just isn't funny. Making a great conservative comedy is about as easy as making a great liberal action film. . . and each of those feats has been accomplished exactly once in the past 25 years. The one great conservative comedy movie was Brazil; and the one great liberal action film was The Matrix.

Reminds me of Dennis Miller's "act" today. Pugs don't seem to know that juvenile insults are just not funny to adults.
They are #7...

Which liberal movies about Iraq beat it?

Have you seen Dennis MIller lately.
by MasterGuns
Of course you haven't, nobody has.
I listen to him on Fox from time to time..
by gringo_911
He is surely 5 times funnier than Maher.
#7? Wrong! #9.

Let's look at some of the movies that are beating it.

I used to love Miller.....
by MasterGuns

Now I think he is too stupid to be funny.

Let's face it, you have to play for your audience, and the dolts on Faux News wouldn't be able to understand 3% of what Miller says.

Most Of Them

Stop Loss took in 4.5 million in its opening weekend.

Fahrenheit 9/11 took in 23.9 million in its opening weekend.

Political comedy sucks
by ErictheRight
The only one who could pull it off, because he was so anti-politics was George Carlin. No other "politics" comedian or political full-length features are funny.
So, it's not like Miller got any worse...
by gringo_911

You stopped liking him because his opinion changed.

As for me, my tastes don't change so easily. Woody Allen is pretty left-wing, but I still find him very smart and very funny. Miller is okay to my taste. Maher is too primitive.

Juvenile Insults

And yet they do seem to be funny to conservatives. I find this somewhat disturbing.

Daily Show, Colbert Report

Some liberal political comedy is funny.
I did say comedians and full-length

features. I'm not saying that comedy writers can't write funny skits or fake news stories, those can be funny. The Onion proves that better than a phony news anchor reading madeup stuff. But stand-up and movie-length features, not happening.
Per screen ?

Lions for Lambs $3,025
