A question for evangelical christians, who are Reps.
by Wrenn

This goes to the concept of Palin as VP, and possibly Palin as President.

Having read a number of articles and a book on the concept of 'Male dominion' as religious based (Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood) I am well aware that there are a number of evangelical christians out there who will refuse to work for a female boss. Recent controversy over female bishops, and of even carrying magazines with articles about then in certain christian book store chains.

"At the heart of mature feminity is a freeing disposition to affirm, receive and nurture strength and leadership from worthy men in ways appropriate to women's differing relationships' (page 46 of the above book)

So... Female commander in chief?

Discuss.

Or simply go back and check Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, etc. on various attacks on feminism and statements like....

"Women need to stay in the home with young children and not ABANDON them to go work." or "Children need a mother at home" or even a few comments against "stay-at-home dads"....

and compare them to their, not-only silence, but ENDORSEMENT of a mother of 5 with an infant, going off to be the VIce-President.

A non-issue.
Unfortunately Nano

It isn't a 'non-issue'

If 'male dominion' was not such an issue (as dawgie has expounded on at times)

We wouldn't have

A non-issue.

Translation: "I can't defend myself"

Well.. No. It could very well be a non-issue for him personally. Unfortunately, a quick google can show that it may well be one for some evangelicals.

It is an indefensible position to argue that Christianity does not have a long history of Patriarchy. It would also be close to indefensible, in my opinion, to believe the Scriptures are the literal word of God and NOT support Patriarchy. I say “close to” because I am amazed to what lengths some Christians will go to embrace modernity and cling to a literal biblical belief. “I know the Bible appears to be saying that but…”

In many Christian denominations women’s roles have expanded dramatically (including inclusion in the clergy) just during my lifetime. In others such as Evangelicals, not so much. Understanding the Fundamentalist mentality, and harkening back to my point of creative interpretation, this is my guess as to what the answer would be to Wren’s question:

Female Commander in Chief: Heaven Forbid!

Oh, did you mean “Republican” Commander in Chief? You know… Deborah was a Judge wasn’t she? In unusual times God does make exceptions. And…she doesn’t seem too prissy, does she!

You can build your whole justification right here: <Deborah for Commander in Chief>

You’d be wrong, but who cares…so long as you win, RIGHT?

That really says it all. Christianity is inherently Patriarchal. If one is willing to dismiss this founding principle of the faith, then the entire dogma becomes so flexible as to be rendered totally irrelevant.

I am not defending Patriarchy, merely pointing out the irony of laying claim to faith in a religion with which one is diametrically opposed regarding one of that particular religion's founding principles.

According to Scripture, the dominion of man over woman comes straight from the mouth of the Creator. I just don't understand how one could rationalize their way around this.

I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation for this dichotomy, although I have heard many.

Sarah would make a good CiC because she's a fighter and has good instincts. As a Christian she will wage war like a Christian. To win it and get the bloodshed over by slaughtering the Moslems with abandon until they piss their pants at the mention of USA.

Did you see her line up her kids? She will do the same thing with the joint chiefs. And she won't abandon the marines like Bush did when some pinko fuck criticises the body count not being as pure as the pinko fuck would like.

Good War Leaders of Christianity, well, how about Queen Elizabeth the First. She beat the Greasers bad. We need someone to beat the greasers out of the USA and be done with the strutting pop-in-jays along with the various kinds of gooks so America can be America again without all the imported Marxist agents of chaos stuffing ballot boxes all over the country for the demoncRATs..

The greatest commandment is to Love the Lord, thy God. Now what was that pesky second greatest commandment...something about love too, wasn't it? Like love thy neighbor as thyself. You really need to re-read your NT.

Don't give me that shit. The way to love a Moslem is to kill his leaders and set him free of Mohammedism and Marxism. Unfortunately, they resist this love so we must give them tough love. Kill enough of them so that they are terrified of us. Unfortunately, with Moslems that is quite a task. It might just be more loving to wipe every last one of them off the face of the earth now and save Jesus the trouble, later. that way the other 5 billion of us will have a shot at living in peace if the Chinks will cooperate.
