The poor track record of the FAA has reached new lows. Airlines across the country are outsourcing their air fleet maintenance in an effort to crush the union workers who reliably kept those fleets active. Recall the cancellations of this past year.
The FAA isn't dealing well with so many outsiders working on the air fleets. They have had to work as defacto "recall" agents to get work done. Assuming if one or a few planes have a problem the whole fleet of like planes has to be repaired. In fact the FAA is useless to oversee foreign repair shops. Yup, foreign repair shops, like in El Salvador.
This article reminds us that unions once proudly ran the airline maintenance. That we now risk our lives to fly so that executives for the airlines can play golf all day, live in McMansions the size of the Pentagon, and live on bonuses they don't deserve into the high millions.
