Faux-ksy

Sarah Palin has repulsed me from the beginning. She is an actress playing a part, a confidence-woman delivering a patently inauthentic schtick. Last night, when she talked about Obama's supposed lack of support for the troops, she feigned a look of severe anger, just before the cameras cut away, that was clearly manufactured for the moment. Then, next question, we're back to the "you betchas" and the "doggone-its" - the folksy little rising star act that her handlers don't have to tweak too much. In the Couric interviews, she laid the bull on so thick, she sounded like a high school sophomore trying to fake her way through an oral exam she hadn't studied for, but when challenged, again she pulls out the "get back too ya" stuff that is, in her mind, "folksy" code to the faithful that we should all be tired of this liberal-media probing.

I can see why the hard right would love her - they are always in the hunt for someone (like Bush) who simply confirms them in their "just folks" small-mindedness. But, I think the most amazing thing about all of this is that John McCain would have bought her act, too.

She proved she's not some life long politician (and I'm using that as a dirty word).

I'm just fine with her not having the perfect grasp on issues she didn't have the need to address as the governor of Alaska. Keep in mind that she's the VP on the ticket. If something were to happen to McCain she'd have a plethora of experienced people around to guide her, but it's her values and judgement we should be looking at.

If I need plain talk I'll ask Sarah Palin. If I need snake oil I'll ask Joe Biden.

The "plethora of experienced people around to guide her" are the same ones that were around Bush. That is part of the problem with the McCain/Palin ticket.

Well, the point is that she doesn't have the experience to even make the "just plain folks" act work. All politicians, granted, sell us some "snake oil", but most of them give us enough credit to have honed their act before they try it on us.

I believe that when Sarah Palin gives us this bunk, it is a clear window into her "values" and judgment," and I think the American people have had enough of the Rovian anti-intellectual smoke and mirrors for now.

When you say "plain speak," do you mean nothing of substance? Or scripted talking points? Or anachronisitc, saccharine Americana about "real American families? Because apparently the east coast is no longer part of the United States.

I mean when I want an answer spoken plainly, instead of 60 seconds of speech that tells you nothing.

You know what I mean, when a liberal politician talks around an issue for a whole minute but doesn't answer the question.

Kind of like when you're asked a yes or no question but the answer ends up being "that's above my paygrade".

Kind of like every time Sarah Palin opens her mouth.
