Biden's 14 lies during the debate
by Ironman
Joe Biden's 14 Lies

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage -- they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska -- she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it's not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

1.) The statement about how Obama voted to raise taxes on Americans making just 42 grand was ITSELF a lie.

2.) You keep mistaking the word "precondition" for other words. Is English not your native language?

3.) If true, this is an instance of Biden changing his mind. What ese has changed? What were the circumstances of the original statement? Oh, you don't know. It's just a gotcha quote you pulled form some blog. Typical.

4.) No, Biden told the truth. Both votes were about a timeline for withdrawal, not troop funding. Obama is for, McCain against. You won't argue the REAL disagreement, because you'd lose.

5.) Clean Coal is a research category right now. We are no closer to ACTUAL clean coal than Saddam was to having nuclear missiles. Like so many idiots, you seem to think that because politicians have bee promising you a nuclear umbrella and clean coal, they can actually deliver. At this point, both are just science fiction.

6.) OOOoooh, exaggerating? Well, he either missed or voted NO the last 22 times. Funny behavior for a guy who claims to be the King of alternative energy. I guess this is a recent conversion, yes? Like, maybe, within the last month?

7.) They pay taxes and get a tax credit. Musical chairs. A nice little benefit for the tax accountants of America. But why not just go for national health insurance? Oh wait, but this is your big lie, right? Not so big. I'd give it an exaggeration, maybe. So at this point, we'er seven supposed big lies in and you have about one and a half exaggerations.

8.) Palin raised the take for the State on oil profits in Alaska. That's what a windfall profits tax would also do. You are way beyond pettifogging here, crossing the line into lying, yourself.

9.) Biden accurately quoted McKiernan that the surge would not work in Afghanistan. There are certainly counterinsurgency program elements that could be applied there, but in areas like the southeast, along the Pakistani border, it's a whole different ball game. The major reason why the Bushies went for Iraq first was that they figured it was easier. it was. All Biden was saying is that false confidence built up by pacifying suburban Baghdad (not such a trick, now that it's divided into gated communities) and buying off the Sunni tribes and thugs won't get us very far in Afghanistan.

He's right; you're wrong. Grow a pair and deal.

10.) You're wrong here.Mccain voted on banking deregulation. The reason he goes back again and again to his Cassandra moment regarding the big mortgage guarantee entities is it's all he's got. He had no idea then that securitized consumer debt could clog up and wreck the credit system. He hadn't given the matter much thought. What you're doing here is an elaborate post-facto bit of bait and switch. sio once again, here, they liar is YOU.

11.) What you have here is, again, a disagreement. Because he disagrees with you, you call him a liar.

12.) The figure here hardly matters. Whatever tax package comes out will be determined by Congress. At the absolute best for your side that comes to an exaggeration. You now have two and a half exaggerations, but a couple of outright lies on YOUR side offeset them quite a lot, don't they?

13.) You've read all three hundred or so pages of the final, approved version of the bailout? There IS a stimuls plan in teh works, and coordination with other states will have to be forthcoming. Obama was talking about the package as PART of a recovery plan.

14.) He was talking about middle-class Americans. Billionaires will pay more. Do you object to that?

oxboggle -

Well put, but FACTS are not a part of the Republican Agenda . .

McCain claims to support working people, Veterans, health care and diplomacy while his ACTUAL VOTING record stands in opposition to what his mouth flaps . . .

A Senator with a 20% rating (try to tell Dad a 20% is a passing grade in math . . .) from the Disabled Veterans of America while collecting his OWN disability VOTED against increased VA funding 1999-2007 (wasn't in any sessions in '08 to vote) . . . voting against health care while having lived his ENTIRE life with the BEST FREE care available in the WORLD . . . championng De-Regulation ('cept when it don't work or your name is KEATING), and we have folks like "Ironman" lappin' it up . . . guess "book learnin'" doesn't stick to metal like magnets . . . too bad.
