i think there have been two swedish committees, one pre the other post world war 2. currently it can venture into some fairly sophisticated territory, such as jellinek. although handke would have receive the prize had it not been for the unpopularity of his position on the causes for the disintegration of yugoslavia. i myself have published four nobel prize winners - hesse, nelly sachs, montale and handke and translated three [sachs and hesse, plus handke who would deserve it even if he raped his grandmother, just for the capacities for communication that he has enabled in the logos

mr. engdahl no doubt sought a bit of controversy. funny thing is that if you look at the list of winners since the inception of the prize around 1900 one notices a gradual decrease of nordic winners. u.s. literature like the country itself is entirely self-absorbed, the biggest island in the world which thinks it owns the world.
