I feel bad about it, but I'll agree with this as well. Biden did come off wonderfully presidential.
I think perhaps the reason that he seems more so than Obama right now isn't really his ability to answer the questions or make a sound policy judgment - I think Biden and Obama are equals in that realm - but in his demeanor. He's a man of the people, and Obama, though he considers the difficulties of the middle class and seems to work very hard to make sure those needs are a part of all of his policies, is not a part of that world.
I think it's a mistake to label him 'elitist', but not at all to call him academic. But frankly, I think that careful judgment on each issue does not require having actually been through each situation the middle class has been in for the last decade. I think it requires the depth of thought and yes, the academic insight, to take the information, the stories, the experiences of those people and to craft a policy that considers their needs.
I think Biden's going to work his tail off to make himself heard in the White House when he thinks he has a story about the middle class that needs Obama's attention. And damned if I don't think this president might actually listen.
I think we got the ticket the right way around. Biden might have been able to be president himself, but really, would we want to think anything less of our vice president, than that he too could run the nation if need be?
