Pelosi is a lousy leader and politician

As A leader her ojective was to get the bill passed and any distraction like another partisan diatribe was unnessesary and dumb. As the house leader she should have never brought the bill to a vote if she didn't have the votes necessary for passage.Because of where she lives she will probably not be defeated in any election, but dems should go about replacing her as their leader with someone who has more control and is in touch with what the rest of the country thinks outside their district.
Then what does that make Boehner, Bush and McCain?

Pelosi delivered 60% of her caucus, Boehner only 33%.

Get real...the Republicans dropped the ball on this one because they are spineless cowards afraid of their re-election prospects.
Pelosi's objective
by degsme
I dunno. People are human. The GOP has been abusing the Dems up down, left right and center for 8 years. And this was a chance for the Dems to make the GOP eat some crow. Could Pelosi have succumbed to that desire to rub some GOP face in it? Gingrich when he was speaker never hesitated, so?

So, what you're saying is that republicans are a bunch of crybaby bitches who change their votes because Pelosi made them feel bad?

And we should support them for this, why?

No, he is saying that when a bill that a Speaker knows needs bipartisan support to pass comes to the floor for a vote, making a partisan pitch that will allow her party's candidates cover for a vote while undermining any credit the other party's candidates get for voting on a bill that will land them in hot water is politically unwise, unless what you are trying to achieve is a failed vote and another partisan finger-pointing effort, in which case the Speaker is a genius. My money's on stupid, not brillianti.

Jeez, are you people calling Reps crybabies really that ignorant as to campaign dynamics? It's one thing to hang your ass in the wind for a positive vote on a bill that you are ambivalent about at best and that your constitutents hate, it's another to do it when the other side is going out of its way to undermine any credit you may get for the vote by saying you caused the mess in the first place, so we Dems can be excused for voting for a bill because we fixed your problem, but you don't deserve any? Don't think for a second she's not pitching a line already focus-grouped by the Dems running for election to open seats this fall.

Contrast's Pelosi's rant with the conciliatory and thoughtful comments of Steny Hoyer, who made the key selling points about the bill without tossing partisan bombs along the way, who thanked key players on both sides of the aisle as well as key administration and agency figures, as a prelude to his point to his colleagues that Congress needs to analyze and fix the problems that caused the meltdown in the first-place. By attempting to build on a spirit of bipartisanship in the bailout legislation, Hoyer was trying to begin the even more difficult task of building a consensus on a new regulatory framework. But Pelosi couldnt be bothered with seeing that far down the road, not when there was a petty opportunity to toss blame.

When the Dems retain Congress this fall, please consider doing the country a favor and promoting your majority leader to Speaker, and sending Pelosi to some place where she can do less damage. No matter how much you get your jollies ranting about Bush, there is a freaking country to run here people.

there is a freaking country to run here people.

That's very true. And one would think that the party that make "country first" their slogon would learn to have a thick enough skin to learn how to take some typical partisan rhetoric and put your tender feelings second. Of course, the need for bipartisan support has never stopped republicans from badmouthing and spreading blame, either.

I'm no fan of Pelosi, but jeez, grow a pair, will you?
