On behalf of sexy librarians everywhere...

I completely resent this comparison.

Please stop.

She's a thinking person's nightmare and the thought of her being one senile heartbeat away from control of this country is keeping me awake at night.

So, you come here often? ;-)

OP, you sound like my sister, LOL! Although I'll leave the determination of "sexy" to her husband, thanks.

But sexy librarin *is* her image. Better to understand it and combat it than deny it.

Speaking as a "sexy librarian" type in my own youth, I'm more insulted with Palin taking on that persona than I am in articles like this pointint it out.

Totally agreed - "She's a thinking person's nightmare..." but let's don't shoot the messenger for pointing out the strategy of the Republicans here. One phrase from the article really sticks out from me -- (paraphrased) that people will be more receptive to a harsh social message coming from her than hearing it from McCain.

Classic Republican play book -- to take imagry that we find pleasing & source of pride, and bastardize that imagry by slapping their own message on it ... disconnecting us from our own cultural images and stealing those images to represent something entirely else. Like they did with the US Flag - remember?

Don't you mean on behalf of angry, unmarried...

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone accused the so-called "Sexy Puritans" of "stealing an image" to promote a social agenda. They should know that the image is how these people see themselves, not just a culture war tactic. True, it fits in with that, but only secondarily. The problem is that for centuries Christians and non-Christians alike just didn't "get it" that paganism can be either ascetic or lascivious. The truth of Christ is the exact balance between asceticism and lust.

How novel! Ageism and sexism all neatly packaged in one post!

And who are you to saya who is a "thinking person"?

The very premise itself is quite subjective.

You know who you can tell a ¨thinking person¨ from a ¨non thinking person´? Ask them if they think people coexisted with dinosaurs.

Moses was going to put he dinosaurs on the Ark right up until they ate the unicorns. Getting political points from Matt Damon is pretty silly. Its just funny that our vp is better qualified than your presidential candidate. Sarah ran a state Obama ran a pancake breakfast.

Thank God for Sarah Palin. She's run more leadership positions in a few years than Hillary Clinton has run in her whole political experience. The liberals have made a big deal about it that she's not up to speed yet on national security and foreign diplomacy. Don't worry, she's a fast learner and I feel far more comfortable with the idea that she may end up being our President than I do with the idea of Barack. He wants to be Commander-in-Chief, but has never served in the military. Interesting.

If Sarah Palin were a Democrat instead of a Republican, and believed in abortion on grounds of convenience and was okay with gay marriage, I think the liberals in this country would be saying, "Wow, look what we've got!"

Herbo, you need a friend. You have isolated yourself into thinking this palin person has some sort of substance about her. She is a bad episode of Northern Exposure. Jamie's mom does not have it going on. She runs Alaska. Who cares. My dad runs a Lowe's Store let's sign him up for VP.
Commander-in-Chief

I don't care that Barack has never served in the military. In fact, I am GLAD he hasn't "served" in the military. Maybe he will have a better perspective and won't be so focused on playing war.
So why then
by degsme

If Palin is more qualified to be POTUS then why then does the GOP say that someone even MORE qualified than her is unqualified to run a state?

  • Christine Gregoire is the Governor of WA - the state closest to AK and who's economy includes about 1/2 of the Alaskan Fishing fleet
  • Gregoire has a BS and a JD, Palin just a BA
  • Gregoire is responsible to 10 times as many citizens as Palin
  • Gregoire has more than 5 times as many citizens who approve of her governance than Palin
  • Gregoire does NOT have a "permanent fund" from which to bribe taxpayers with an annual $$ check
  • Gregoire's budget is 10 times as large as Palin's
  • Gregoire was the Attorney General of 7 million citizens instead of mayor of 18,000
  • Gregoire LEAD the $$multi billion tobacco settlements instead of just rubber stamping the pipelin application after experts had vetted it
  • Gregoire has lead 3+ trade delegations to Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the PRC, Palin has lead none - not even to Russia

And yet the GOP says that Gregoire is not capable of leading WA while Palin supposedly is capable being POTUS

uhuh...hypocrisy much?

Wow. What an ignorant post. I'd combat this with facts but they would clearly go right over your head. Try thinking independently of what your party tells you to think, if you can manage it. Basing your position on emotion rather than fact is not only silly, it's downright dangerous to American society. At least present an argument based on legitimate, independently verifiable facts rather than resorting to the typical Republican response of insults and propaganda. Sarah Palin isn't qualified enough or intelligent enough to run a lemonade stand on a street corner in my opinion - let alone be second-in-command of this nation. There are high schools in this country with larger populations than Wasilla, Alaska - so by your standard the principals of those schools would be more qualified than Governor Palin. The entire state of Alaska has less than 3/4 of a million people - that would make Mayors such as Marion Barry and Kwame Kilpatrick more qualified than her based on the same standard. At least be reasonable and recognize that McCain chose this woman for one reason only - to hopefully garner the votes of people who would simply vote for this ticket based on the fact that a woman is on it. Or more simply, to get the votes that Hillary would've gotten had she been the nominee. There are so many more qualified Republican females (Sen. Olympia Snowe, perhaps) who were passed over or overlooked because they don't have the "look" that McCain so desperately covets.
