happiness is a warm gun
by delicious

The Beatles, right? People kill people, and have been since the beginning of time. A gun does not automatically point at a person and pull the trigger itself. While the incident is tragic, cars statisically kill more people annually than any other weapon.

Like all other independent nations the people with the right to bear arms written into the constitution will if necessary fight to protect themselves from tyranny either foreign or national. Go hug your gun!

Romantic.

With today's military technology, it would be a lousy tyranny that could not handle a bunch of private citizens together with whatever firearms they possessed.

Thanks!

I'm Swedish.

I suppose you are an American That is because I have noticed how Americans often seem to be hung-up about France - for reasons that I usually do not understand.

Really and this was proved in Somalia, Various other African countries, Iraq, Afghanistan (twice), Bosnia, various other former soviet countries.

Yeah a bunch of "peasants" with rifles can't do much against a modern military......what world do you live in?

Whay you say is no pure contradiction to my point, as it refered to a "lousy tyranny" - i.e. a not so very mighty and/or competent force. Otherwise, I think the idea of home-cooked militas holding out against, for instance the force of the U.S. army (the original posting seems to hint at that scenario) is indeed very romantic. Or at least, to me it seems like a very vague argument in defence of the rights for private citizens to wear arms on a daily basis in peaceful, civilian environments like the world's most politically peaceful democracies. All of your examples are countries that not belong in that sphere.

Naturally, any reasonable large armed resistance among a nation's population is in itself a force to count with. But I doubt that in the modern age, it has ever scared any tyrant in the possession of a decent military force, from acting the tyrant. To take one of your examples, the U.S. military seems for instance to do quite well in Iraq, nowadays. In that case, obviously the private weaponry held by the Iraqians did not prevent the invasion from occur, neither is it likely to play any vital role for how and when the U.S. army decides to leave the country.

This government wants to disarm the Citizens so as to have complete control and power. Every tyrannical government in the past has taken away the guns to prevent any serious opposition or rebellion. History continues to repeat itself because the new generations who come along don't know or tend to forget about the past and will say it will not happen here.

Guns Australia

Requires registration of guns.

If any of you saw the motion picture called "Red Dawn" would realize that the enemy finds these lists and then goes door to door collecting all of the guns.

Gun Control--Human Cost
Re: happiness is a warm gun

Sovereigns have a right to own and use guns--"Right to bear arms" against "enemies foreign and domestic".

The founding fathers knew the importance of protecting themselves from governments who get out of hand.

2nd Amendment
"...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Guns are Tools

Like I said before happiness is a warm gun, go hug your gun!

GUNS ARE TOOLS
The History Refresher Course
  • An armed man is in control. An unarmed man is a slave.
  • A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
  • Gun control is not about guns, it is about control.
  • If guns are outlawed, can we use swords, knives, ...?
  • If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.
  • Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.
  • If you don't know your rights, then you don't have any.
  • Those who trade liberty for security have neither.
  • What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand.
  • The Second Amendment is in place in case the other amendments are ignored.
  • 64,999,987 firearm owners killed no one yesterday.
  • Guns have only two enemies, Rust and Politicians.
  • Know guns, know peace and safety; No guns, no peace or safety.
  • You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive or be free.
  • What is 911? A government sponsored "Dial a Prayer".
  • Assault is a behavior, not a device.
  • Criminals love gun control. It makes their job easier and safer.
  • Tyrants love gun control to remain in power and be in control.
  • If guns cause crime, then matches cause arson.
  • Only a government that is afraid of it's people tries to control and disarm them.
  • You have only the rights you are willing to fight for.
  • Any tool can be used for good or be used to murder.
  • Many murders are done without guns.
  • When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.
  • The American Revolution would never have happened with "Gun Control".
  • "....a government by the people, for the people......"
