Jefferson was alot like today's libs
by Fenella

he loved the french revolution with all its excesses and killings, the precursor to modern day revolutions that is supposed to make everything better, does the opposite, but that libs defend because they love the world Revolution.

even as he loved the revolution, he did not free his own slaves.

Adams hated the french revolution, and he freed his slaves. He had a conservative mentality that eschewed hysterical gestures.

Revolutions are always bad? Interesting. You may not realize this but our nation was born in a revolution against colonial Britain. The American Revolution; perhaps you've heard of it?

As someone else already pointed out Adams never owned slaves.

I'd say you were an ignorant conservative but that's being redundant.

"John Adams never owned slaves."

Perhaps the original poster meant Washington, who did own slaves but did set them free. I love the story of the woman who bought the little 8 year old slave girl because she looked so frightened, then taught her to read and write, and later set her free. The little girl became a poet, Phyllis I think, and wrote a poem about Washington. Great story, but the woman went to a slave auction to buy a slave. I don't know if she ever bought another slave after that. Did it change her mind about slavery? In ancient times, the poor often sold themselves into slavery, and the original American slaves were indentured servants. But somehow that system evolved into something horrible. And it makes me wonder why Washington freed his slaves, did he change his mind? Did he grasp what seems to have eluded Jefferson, the contradiction between what they fought for and what they were doing? The whole thing is kind of a mind-blower.
