Where are the lawyers when you need them?
by speedracerx
I can't imagine why these disasters-waiting-to-happen haven't spawned a whole cottage industry of trial lawyers in every state suing the bejesus out of this company. Even the seven-year-old I know constantly wipes out in his shoes. It's an unsafe principle to start with, it causes accidents all the time, and the first place you fall is onto your wrists as you try to catch your balance. Why is this product not up to its shoelaces in litigation? Can someone explain how our sue-happy culture failed us on this one?

Are skateboard companies being forced out of business by lawsuits? Seems to me their products work as intended. They're shoes with wheels. Duh, you might fall down. But, I've got to smile that someone with a screen name like yours would be crying out for lawyers to shut down Heelies!

I'm just suprised that it hasn't happened yet!! And sure, the product works as intended, but its inherent danger makes it suspect anyway.

Besides, we all know that these days, you don't really need a reason to sue, you can just do it and see what you can fish up!

One difference, Sundown-do you see people zipping through the mall and the supermarket on skateboards? Heelys are often used in places that aren't designed for free-wheeling. I think that in most cases suing because someone on Heelys gets injured would be baseless, because most sports equipment carries a level of risk. Likewise, a person suing because they were hit by a wayward Heely wearer in a park or other public place frequented by runners or bikers might be suspect. I wonder, however, if there would be a more solid basis if a third party is injured in a place of business by someone Heely-ing into them.

For the record...I'm not a lawyer, don't object to the very existence of Heelys, and have never sued anyone for anything.

Well then let's just start sueing the rollerblade and skateboard companies to. They do force the products on us and demand that the children and parents have no choice but to use these products. Get a grip. It is not the compnies fault the people are careless in where they use these products. If you want to sue anyone sue the person or their parents that causes the harm. Otherwise get a life.

I have always loved to roller skate and bike.

I think the thing that needs stressed is to not run into people or over them.Right?

Well..that may be hard to instill ,considering the amount of young adults cutting us off on the highway. They have never learned this, have they?

As with most things.....coutetesy and consideration go a lonnnnnnngggg way.

I personally won't navigate thru Wallys w/o a buggy as a barrier to not get run over by my peers.

Next week..........cell phones and safety......courtesy..............

I really agree with you. It's a comfort to know that recently the company LOST 400,000 in sales. Accidents have happened. Perhaps we'll be happier when they are in bankruptcy finally.
