Cindy wouldn't be on meth. There are many amphetamines available by prescription, including dextroamphetamine and a mixture known generically as "mixed amphetamine salts" and sold as Adderall as a brand-name drug. If she's on any stimulant, it's most likely Adderall or dextro.
While there is a pharmaceutical version of methamphetamine (Desoxyn), it is rarely prescribed and there's really not many cases where it would work better than the commonly prescribed amphetamines.
There's a nice book on all this by Nicolas Rasmussen titled
On Speed: The Many Lives of Amphetamine It details how amphetamine was first marketed as a treatment for asthma and congested lungs, and soon became used as the original anti-depressant in the early 1940s. Then it's use as a diet drug led to even more usage. Prescription amphetamine use peaked around 1970 according to the book. ADD has returned it to the spotlight, but forty years ago it was even more common than it is today.
